C-G honored as top team at 2021 Elks Spring Day with sweeps in boys and girls divisions; B-R, Wellsville boys, C-R girls among top local finishers
WELLSVILLE — Although the cold and the rain put a damper on most of the action scheduled for the weekend, it did not stop Wellsville from bringing back the Elks Spring Day event for the first time in nearly two seasons, as over 10 teams from across the area, far and wide, gathered to compete in the biggest meet of the season, Saturday morning.
When the action was all said and done, the Canisteo-Greenwood Redskins swept the action across the board with first place overall finishes in both boys and girls divisions, taking the 2021 Elks Spring Day crown out of a complete field of 11 teams in attendance inside the Lion’s Den.
Among the top finishers locally, the Bolivar-Richburg boys team saw nine individuals record multiple top six finishes to put toward a 120 point second place finish. Leading the way was Rudy Polk, who three top six finishes including a first place medaling time in the 100 dash (12.07), and two second place finishes from the field in the long jump (20-11.25) and triple jump (39-5.25). Hunter Stuck also recorded three top six finishes, led by a pair of second place triumphs in both hurdling events — the 110 (18.41) and 400 hurdles (1:06.67), while adding a third place height in the high jump (5-3).
Lloyd Kinnicutt was one of four Wolverines that had a pair of top six finishes, recording the top distance on the discus (124-10) to earn the gold, and adding a second place finish in the discus. Jason Greeson also provided a first place finish of his own on the track, reaching the finish line first in the 400 dash (54.56), and finishing second in the 200 dash (25.25). Seth Yates added in a third place finish in the shot put (31-6.25), and a sixth place finish in the discus.
Bolivar-Richburg also saw the team of Polk, Greeson, Stuck and Ethan Coleman record a 3:49.03 first place finish in the 1600 relay, adding a fourth place 400 relay finish.
Other individual winners for the Wolverines include: Ryder Easton (fourth place, 1600 run; fifth place, 3200 run), Colden Higley (fifth place, 400 hurdles; sixth place, 110 hurdles), Ethan Coleman (fourth place, 400 dash), and Dom Baldwin (fifth place, 800 run).
On the girls side, the Lady Wolverines collected finished ninth overall with 28 total points, as Kyla Gayton picked up the team’s best finish at the meet with a second place height in the high jump (4-2). Nadia Baldwin and Sarah Clark finished back-to-back in the long jump, recording third (12-4.75), and fourth place finishes. Kori Thomas provided a fourth place 100 hurdles win, while Ryleigh Kemp finished fifth in the 200 dash. The team would also add a pair of fifth place finishes in the 400 and 1600 relay events.
The Wellsville boys would come away with a third place finish behind 51 points, led by a first place finish in the 4x55 relay event, and a second place 3200 relay victory from the team of Gavin Dickerson, JT Mariotti, Noah Joslyn and Shane Davidson, with a time of 10:55.06. Davidson led the individual victories with a second place finish in the 800 run (2:30.90). Eli Brophy recorded third and fourth place finishes in the Steeplechase (13:17.63), and 3200 run respectively. Wyatt Scott also had third and fourth place finishes in the 400 (1:09.50), and 110 hurdles each, while Noah Joslyn had a fourth and sixth place finish in the 800 run and triple jump respectively.
Whitesville’s Matt Garis recorded a top finish in the Steeplechase event (12:35.12), and a second place finish in the 3200 run (12:56.06).
On the girls side, the Lady Lions finished eighth overall with 37 total points, as Brooklyn Stisser led the way with three top six finishes, with her best coming in a second place 200 dash finish (30.21), adding fifth and sixth place finishes in the 100 and 400 dashes along the way. Grace Kinnicutt and Stephanie Oswald provided fourth place finishes in the 1500 run and discus each, while Hannah Dunaway and Cameron Gordon chipped in fifth and sixth place finishes in the Steeplechase and long jump. In the relay department, the Lady Lions placed third in the 1600 relay, and fourth in the 4x55 and 400 relays.
Both Cuba-Rushford boys and girls teams recorded fifth place finishes with 41, and 54 points respectively, with Brayden Lavery recording three top six finishes led by a second place 100 dash finish (12.60), a third place 200 dash (26.05) and finishing sixth in the long jump. Noah Seigel had the team’s lone first place finish with a winning time in the 110 hurdles (18.06). Lavery and Seigel also ran a leg in the team’s second place 400 relay victory (49.37). The Rebels also had a sixth place 1600 relay finish. Other individual winners include: Alex Baron (fifth place, 100 dash; fifth place 200 dash), Tristan Clayson (fifth place, discus) and Hunter Williams (sixth place, shot put).
The Lady Rebels recorded a first place finish in the 400 relay, with the team of Sofia Riquelme, Natalie Goble, Hailey Kumpf and Ava Belec recording a 5:42.32 winning time for the gold. Individually, Goble placed second in the 100 dash (14.25), Kumpf finished third in the 800 run (2:44.71), Belec placed fourth in the 100 dash and Riquelme finished fourth in the 200 dash. The team would also added in a sixth place 1600 relay finish. Other individual winners include: Libby Drum (second place, 1500 run; fourth place, 800 run) and Tara Duvall (second place, discus 80-7; sixth place, shot put).
The Genesee Valley boys team place seventh overall with 32 points, with Melvin Hamer leading the individual victories with a pair of third place finishes in the 800 run (2:34.63) and in the triple jump (35-1.25). Morgan Torrey also had two top six finishes, finishing second in the high jump (5-7) and fifth in the long jump. Jonathan Webb-Aylor placed fourth in the 400 hurdles, while Zach Bourne and Damien Rinker rounded off the Jaguars individual finishes in the Steeplechase and 200 dash respectively. The team would also add a fifth place 1600 relay finish along the way.
The Lady Jaguars finished 11th overall with 12 points, as Lizzy Bentley led the way with a pair of third place finishes in the throwing events — the shot put (25-7), and discus (76-7).
The Fillmore boys team did not place on the leaderboard, but did get a first place finish in the 3200 relay from the team of Hayden Rust, Matt Majoros, Ben Beardsley and Damon Wood with a winning time of 10:18.93. They would add a fourth place 1600 relay victory along the way.
On the girls side, Grace Russell tallied a pair of fifth place finishes in the 3000 run and triple jump. Rachel Hatch provided the team with their highest individual finish, placing second in the Pentathlon with 1294 points. Jessi Rust and Kiera Engler rounded off with sixth place finishes in the 400 hurdles, and high jump to help the Lady Eagles record a 10th place overall finish with 14 points.
