Lady Sea Lions continue success back home, roll past Bath-Haverling behind youth with 90-64 victory to remain unbeaten

WELLSVILLE — The young talent of Wellsville’s up-and-coming swimmers continue to make a big impact through the start of the Lady Sea Lions season, as the team captured eight first place victories in all to settle on a 90-64 home win over Bath-Haverling to earn their fourth straight win.

In the first half of the meet, Wellsville (4-0) picked up four of the first five events in the win column, starting off strong with a 200 medley relay victory from the team of Tiernee Brandes, Hayden Waldon, Isabelle Hart and Morgan Mattison, as they swam to a 2:12.87 victory.

Three of the four swimmers would all have a hand in an individual victory in the back half of the night, with Brandes taking the win in the 500 freestyle (6:15.62), Waldon in the 100 freestyle (1:00.64) and Hart in the 100 butterfly (1:15.62).

Hart and Waldon would also swim winning legs in Wellsville’s final relay victory of the night, in the 200 freestyle relay (2:08.93). Other individual winners for the Lady Sea Lions include: Ellie LaBenne in the 200 freestyle (2:21.30), Sara McCormick in the 50 freestyle (31.31) and Ashley Oswald on the diving board (157.65).

“Today was another solid showing for the girls. We're still working in different girls in different races and different relays,” Lady Sea Lions coach Steve Hand said. “With a short season and only six meets, it's been really hard to see where girls are swimming their best event. They have done great so far, and I hope it continues on. Ellie had good swims in the 200 and 500, she continues to cut time. Isabelle looked great in her relays, and had a solid first butterfly. It's just a lot of fun to watch these girls for a crazy year. I'm glad we're having a lot of fun, and doing so good along with it.”

The Lady Sea Lions are back in the water Tuesday night over the road, as they prepare to visit Wayland-Cohocton. First swim begins at 6:30 p.m.
