Thursday Roundup: Wellsville golf grabs 6th victory in last seven, going past Fillmore; Lions tennis remains unbeaten with sweep at C-S
WELLSVILLE — With League Championships right around the corner, Thursday night gave the Lions of Wellsville to prepare to make their impact, when Fillmore came in for their second and final meeting of this season.
It was a close affair the first time around, with the Lions taking the win by three strokes over the Eagles, but this time around, Wellsville pulled away behind big days from Aidan Hart and Lance Grantier, as they recorded the 195-231 win at the Wellsville Country Club.
Hart led all Wellsville (6-1) golfers at the top of the scorecard with a match-low round of 42, earning medalist honors. Grantier would follow behind with a round of 44 himself. Mason Parks chipped in a 53, while Ethan Bailey added in a 56.
Fillmore (3-2) was led by Hayden Rust, who was at the top of the Eagles scorecard with a team-low round of 54. Owen Potter chipped in with a 55. Haley Hall added a 60, while Dylan Valentine rounded off with a 62.
The Lions head off to the Caledonia Country Club on Monday to participate in League Championship action, while Fillmore now prepares for Allegany County Championships at Allegheny Hills, also on Monday.
Cuba-Rushford 209, Hinsdale 237
RUSHFORD — Ethan Rix and Sebastian Saulter were both at the top of the leaderboard for the Rebels of Cuba-Rushford, as they both provided the medalist round of 47 to lead the team toward a 209-237 victory over visiting Hinsdale at Allegheny Hills on Thursday.
Finishing behind Rix and Saulter was Benson McCumiskey, who chipped in with a 55. Zack Eddy rounded off with a 60 for the Rebels (3-1). Hinsdale was led by Brad Bergstrom, who recorded a team-low round of 56.
The Rebels and Bobcats both will return to Allegheny Hills on Monday to partake in Allegany County Championship action.
BOYS TENNIS
Wellsville 5, Campbell-Savona 0
CAMPBELL — The Lions have won their first three matches of the season, and on Thursday, they made sure it was four in a row, as they traveled over the road to Campbell-Savona and turned home victorious in sweeping fashion with a 5-0 shutout of the host Panthers.
All five victories for Wellsville (4-0) were nearly recorded in sweeping fashion, but Walker Waldon manage to bring out the brooms in his second singles match, taking the 6-0, 6-0 win. Dahlton Mattison and Matt Bittel each garnered 6-1, 6-0 wins at first and third singles, respectively.
In the doubles department, the match victory was collected with a 6-0, 6-1 win from Ian Iantorno and Jake Schrlau at first doubles, and a 6-1, 6-1 victory from Ryan Carlton and Ryan Haggerty at second doubles.
The Lions will return to action back on the road Tuesday night with a visit to Alfred-Almond at 5 p.m.

B-R boys, Fillmore girls sweep at Houghton College
HOUGHTON — The Bolivar-Richburg boys and Fillmore girls were at the tops of their game Thursday night at Houghton College, as they recorded sweeps in each division to take the meet victory respectively.
The Wolverines recorded 78-30, and 76-35 wins over Fillmore and Houghton Academy behind 10 total victories in the boys field of action, eight of them coming individually, and three coming from Rudy Polk, who led the way from the track and field.
Polk recorded two of his wins from the field, finishing with winning distances in the long jump (18-2), and triple jump (37-7), adding a 100 dash (11.6) along the way. Hunter Stuck and Lloyd Kinnicutt each recorded two victories each, with Stuck sweeping the hurdling events — the 110 (17.5) and 400 (1:09.4) hurdles, while Kinnicutt won both throwing events — the shot put (40-8), and discus (116-10).
Jason Greeson had the last individual win to add for the Wolverines, scoring a winning time in the 200 dash (24.2). The team also collected a pair of relay wins in the 400 (54.5) and 1600 relays (4:12.0).
Houghton Academy was able to record the meet split by taking a 49-39 win over Fillmore with three first place finishes, two from Zach Tucker in the distance events — the 1600 (5:21.1) and 3200 (11:35.3) runs. James Adenuga added a 5-0 winning height in the high jump.
Fillmore recorded two individual wins from Ben Beardsley and Damon Wood, as they earned gold in the 400 (1:00.3), and 800 (2:28.2) sprints respectively.
On the girls side, it was the Lady Eagles that tallied the sweep with 64-39, and 81-0 wins over the Lady Wolverines and Lady Panthers, leading the pack with nine total victories, seven of them individually.
Rachel Hatch and Ava Sylvester each provided a pair of individual wins with Hatch medaling in the 200 dash (30.6) and 400 hurdles (1:22.9), while Sylvester placed first in the 400 sprint (1:12.8), and long jump (12-0.5). The Lady Eagles would also grab both relay wins along the way — in the 400 (1:00.4), and 1600 (5:05.5).
Fillmore would also add two final individual wins from Delaney Hillman and Morgan Byer, as they recorded triumphs in the shot put (21-2.5), and high jump (4-2).
The Bolivar-Richburg girls team would split the meet with an 81-3 win over Houghton Academy, as they recorded five first place finishes with five different Lady Wolverines garnering winning times. On the track, Ryleigh Kemp, Rylie Osgood and Kori Thomas led the way with wins in the 100 dash (14.8), 1500 run (7:50.4) and 100 hurdles (20.4) respectively.
From the field, Maddy Sisson and Brena Walp rounded off with wins of their own in the discus (71-6), and triple jump (26-11.5).
Fillmore will join Cuba-Rushford on a trip to Wellsville on Wednesday, with a 5 p.m. start slated. On the same day, Houghton Academy will join alongside Genesee Valley and Scio on a trip to Bolivar-Richburg, also at 5 p.m.
Beforehand, the Wolverines will return home to host Portville after the weekend on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
