Wednesday Roundup: Lions perform sweep of Genesee Valley, as boys roll over the road, ladies dominate at home to remain undefeated with 7th straight win
BELMONT — Despite the bats going quiet during their extra inning victory over Bath-Haverling this past Monday on the road, the Lions wanted to make sure their offensive bounce back was loud and clear on Wednesday.
They did just that when they traveled back on the road to visit Genesee Valley, as they accounted for 13 runs on 11 hits, with five of those runs coming right in the first inning of play to set up shop on their eventual 13-2 victory over the Jaguars in five innings.
Three different Lions (3-1) scored at least a pair of hits on the offensive front, with Dominic Sawyer leading at both the plate, and on the mound, with a 2-for-4 day that included a pair of RBI and three runs scored. Sawyer also picked up the win on the hill by striking out eight and walking one.
Helping the cause on offense was Alex Ordiway, who added in two hits with an RBI and two runs scored. Logan Dunbar drove in two more runs on two hits of his own, while Cody Costello belted a double and scored twice. Alex Green scored two runs.
Genesee Valley (1-3) was held to a single run in the bottom of the fifth inning on just four hits at the plate, with Trent Scott leading the way with a pair that included a double. Joe Ward had a double to add, while Riley Gordon had the team’s final hit off a single. On the mount, Ethan Bigelow struck out two and walked five in his two inning start.
Both teams are back on the field Friday night with 5 p.m. first pitches, as Wellsville looks for their fourth win in first five games with a trip to Cuba-Rushford, while the Jaguars aim to rebound with Fillmore in for a visit.

FILLMORE — Four different Eagles accounted for two hits in another standout offensive day at the plate, including Brent Zubikowski, who blasted a two-run homer, his third of the season in his three hit afternoon to pace Fillmore toward a 20-2 rolling over visiting Andover on Wednesday in five innings.
18 of Fillmore’s runs came in the first three innings of play, five of them being scored in the bottom of the first inning to build up a lead they would never lose, as they finished the game with 20 runs off 14 hits. Helping lead the charge behind Zubikowski was Isaiah Voss, who also had three hits.
Connor Potter, Zach Sisson and Aaron Buck each had two hits to round off the offense. On the mound, Potter picked up the win behind five strikeouts and one walk for the Eagles (3-1).
Andover (0-4) was led by Spencer Cook, who had two of the team’s five total hits, including a double. Kayden Zengerle provided a single to score cook in the top of the fifth. On the hill, Layton Miller struck out two and walked four in his two inning start.
Both teams are back on the field over the road Friday night in a pair of 5 p.m. first pitches, with Fillmore going for four wins in their first five at Genesee Valley, while Andover heads out to Whitesville to continue their search for their first win.

WHITESVILLE — After coming back to defeat Bolivar-Richburg back on Monday, the Rebels of Cuba-Rushford continued their offensive momentum shift back over the road in Whitesville on Wednesday, scoring 13 of their 17 runs in the first three innings of play to set the tone on a 17-3 win over the host Jays in five innings.
The Rebels (3-1) collected eight total hits while capitalizing on base running along the way, with Trent Chamberlain and Caden Granger taking charge of the bats, both recording two hits and scoring two runs of their own. On the mound, Austin Pinney picked up the victory behind eight strikeouts and three walks in his three inning start.
On the other side, Whitesville (0-2) recorded five hits with Spencer Mattison and Justin Waters each recording a double, while CJ Estep had a hit, and scored two of the three runs for the Jays.
Both teams will return to the field Friday night for 5 p.m. first pitches on their home turf, with Cuba-Rushford heading back home to welcome in Wellsville, while Whitesville looks to rebound with Andover in town.

BELFAST — Camdyn MacDonell and Trey Buchholz combined to provide a stellar outing for the Wolverines of Bolivar-Richburg on the rubber, as they combined to hold host Belfast to just a single hit, as the rebounded from Monday’s home loss to Cuba-Rushford with a 17-0 five inning shutout of the Bulldogs, Wednesday night.
MacDonell was awarded the victory for Bolivar-Richburg (3-2), garnering five strikeouts and two walks while Buchholz added in three strikeouts of his own in relief to shut the door. On offense, the team collected 17 runs off 18 total hits, with Caden Allen recording three of them and scoring twice. Alex MacDonell added in two hits of his own, and scored twice.
The Bulldogs (3-2) were propelled by Garrett Miller, who had the lone hit on a single. On the mound, Nick Ellison struck out one and walked two in his start for the Bulldogs, who now travel to Genesee Valley for a 1 p.m. first pitch with the Jaguars on Saturday.
The Wolverines are back home Friday night to host their annual Tournament, as they prepare to face Canisteo-Greenwood in first round action at 5 p.m.

HINSDALE — The Golden Eagles and Bobcats came together for wild affair over I-86 in Hinsdale, Wednesday night, as the two foes combined to record 33 runs on 20 total hits. In the end, Friendship/Scio had the bulk of the runs to come away victorious, as they tallied the 22-11 barn-burning victory.
Cam Loucks was a force on both sides of the field for Friendship/Scio (3-2), picking up the win on the mound while rocketing the Golden Eagles on offense with his big night, as he recorded a 3-for-5 outing at the plate with a three-run homer and five total RBI. Loucks also struck out six and walked two in his tenure on the mound to pick up the win.
The Golden Eagles took a 15-1 lead after the first three innings of play, as Ian Romero continued to add onto the offensive success with two hits of his own, and two runs scored. Cory Bolzan added a single.
Hinsdale (0-3) was led by Xavier Pascucci, who had two hits, and drove in two runs. On the mound, Sam Cashimere fanned two and walked two in his start.

WELLSVILLE — The Lady Lions of Wellsville have given up just two runs all season long, recording shutouts in three of their last four games behind dominant showings of offense and defense. On Wednesday, they showed no signs of slowing down.
Wellsville recorded a massive nine-run opening frame to set up shop on what came to be a 17-run, 19-hit offensive slugfest that allowed them to remain undefeated on the season, as they garnered their seventh straight win behind a 17-0 five-inning shutout over visiting Genesee Valley at Tullar Field on Senior Night.
Six different Lady Lions (7-0) helped provide a big spark to the bats by recording at least a pair of hits at the plate, with Marley Adams providing the lumber on a perfect 4-for-4 outing with a double and two RBI. Mallory Sibble and Emma Dunaway added in three hits of their own, with Sibble tallying a double and driving in three runs, while Dunaway had an RBI of her own.
Also assisting in the cause were Carly Young, Maddie Spicer and Makenzie Cowburn, all recording two hits. In the circle, Cowburn tossed a one-hit gem with 11 strikeouts and three walks, holding a no-hit performance up until an Adison Grusendorf single in the top of the fifth inning provided the disruption.
Genesee Valley (3-2) was led by Sierra Burrows, who fanned one and walked four in her complete game on the rubber. The Lady Jaguars are back on the dirt Friday night back on the road, as they visit Fillmore at 5 p.m.
The Lady Lions are right back on the field tonight to complete their suspended game with Hammondsport, as they reboot the action from May 3 holding a 7-4 lead over the Lady Lakers in the top of the second inning. First pitch at Tullar Field is slated for 7:15 p.m.

RICHBURG — After building up a 6-0 lead in the first two innings of play, the Lady Wolverines of Bolivar-Richburg eclipsed the double digit mark and then some in the last two frames, scoring the last nine runs to force the 15-run rule in their favor, taking down Belfast by a 15-0 count on Wednesday.
The offense was connecting on all fronts for the Lady Wolverines (3-1), accounting for 15 runs on 14 total hits at the plate, with McKinlee and Madigan Harris recording three hits, with McKinlee tallying an RBI-double and scoring four times, while Madigan chipped in a three-run double of her own and scored twice.
Jianna Nix and Jessica Majot each chipped in with two hits of their own, with Majot scoring two runs. In the circle, Nix earned the win by holding Belfast to just two hits across an 11-strikeout gem.
For the Lady Bulldogs (3-2), Anna Drozdowski and Sondra Guilford each had a single. On the mound, Emma Sullivan struck out four and walked six in her complete game.

CUBA — The Lady Jays and Lady Rebels were neck and neck for much of the battle on Wednesday, providing multiple lead changes before the game balanced on one side of the remainder of the game.
After Whitesville picked up the 3-2 lead early on, Cuba-Rushford was able to create an opening to an amount that kept them in the driver’s seat permanently, as they recorded nine runs across a pair of innings to branch their lead to as large as eight, holding on to take the 11-5 victory at home.
The offense came into effect after the Lady Jays dug their way toward a 3-2 lead after the top of the fourth inning, as the Lady Rebels (1-4) scored nine unanswered runs with four coming in the bottom half. The bats were led by Hunter Jahnke, Riley Keller and Ella Jaffe, as they all recorded two hits. Sydney Howard provided a stellar showing, tossing a 12-strikeout gem to keep Whitesville at bay.
“This was a great first win for us,” Lady Rebels coach Diana Joseph said. “They are still working hard, and I’m really proud of them for staying positive with such a short season in front of us. I couldn’t ask for a better group of girls to coach.”
The Lady Jays (0-2) provided some life despite falling behind, as they put the pressure on Cuba-Rushford with three seventh inning runs to cut their deficit, but it was too much to overcome in the end. Despite the loss, the team saw a perfect 4-for-4 day from Gabbi Hall, as she recorded a double and scored a run to head the attack.
In the circle, Jessica Erdmann struck out nine and walked six in her complete game.

ANDOVER — The Fillmore Lady Eagles were at the top of their game when they hit the road on Wednesday, as they accounted for at least two runs in five of the seven innings of action, including a big 7-1 lead through just over an inning of action they never looked back from, as they rolled toward a 24-9 road win over the Lady Panthers of Andover.
Harley Miller and Preslee Miller both led the offensive efforts for the Lady Eagles (2-1), with Harley recording a three-hit evening behind a triple, double and three total RBI, while Preslee added in a triple, double and two RBI. On the mound, Kirstin Frazier provided the win with four strikeouts and nine walks.
On the flip side, Andover (0-3) saw Olivia Hanks and Kelsie Niedermaier record an RBI single each, while Makaila Brewster struck out eight in her six inning start inside the circle.

WELLSVILLE — Garrett Shields provided the medalist round for the Wolverines of Bolivar-Richburg, as he fired a team-low round of 46 to pace what was a 223-268 victory over host Genesee Valley at the Wellsville Country Club on Wednesday.
Finishing behind Shields was Brennan Gilliland, who added in a round of 56 for the Wolverines. Gauge Robinson tallied a 58, while Ryan Greeson rounded off with a 63.
Genesee Valley was led by Colton Cowburn, who fired a team-low round of 64. Dakota Hemphill followed suit with a 66. Ashley McRae pitched in with a 70, while Zach Davis carded a 74 to finish the Jaguars scoring.
Both teams will come together once more on Friday at the Bolivar Golf Club with a 4 p.m. tee time expected.
BOYS TENNIS
Scio 3, Bolivar-Richburg 2
BOLIVAR — It was a back-and-forth battle all match long between both Scio and Bolivar-Richburg, including hard-fought battles at second singles and second doubles, but the Tigers were able to leave Bolivar victorious, as they clinched the narrow 3-2 edge over the Wolverines on Wednesday.
Leading the triumphs for Scio was Jordan White and Brenden Loucks in the singles department, with White garnering the 6-2, 6-1 victory over Bolivar-Richburg’s Roger Geist, while Loucks had a 6-1, 6-0 win over Emma Murphy at third singles. At first doubles, the team of Corey Field and Ben Weimer recorded a 6-4, 6-4 win over the team of Gwen Coats and Ben Kisel.
The Wolverines collected both hard-fought wins that saw all three sets being contested, with Paige Taylor earning the three-set, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 win over Scio’s Jude Marion at second singles, while the second doubles team of Andrew Crawford and Emma Farrell took the 2-7, 6-4, 7-5 win over Will Broach and Austin Gowdy.
Bolivar-Richburg will hit the road for Houghton College to take on Fillmore, Friday night with a 5 p.m. first serve, while Scio will return to regular season action next Friday back home when they host Andover at 5 p.m.

ANDOVER — After starting their Allegany County League slate in sweeping style, the Eagles of Fillmore did it all over again in Andover on Wednesday, as they picked up a trio of singles victories to assist in clinching the 5-0 match sweep against the Panthers.
Eben Schilke and Ryan Ballard led the Eagles with straight-set victories at second, and third singles over their opponents — Andover’s Jayden Reed and Dawson Reed, respectively. Carter Sisson followed along with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Will Kent at first singles.
Fillmore would collect two forfeit wins in the doubles department to clinch the match victory.
The Eagles head back home to take on Bolivar-Richburg at Houghton College on Friday with a 5 p.m. first serve, while Andover resumes regular season action next Friday night with a road trip to Scio, also at 5 p.m.
