Harris twins each record hat trick as Lady Wolverines bounce back from loss to Fillmore with 6-0 win over Belfast

BOLIVAR — It was clear after Friday night’s massive defeat to the hands of the Lady Eagles of Fillmore, that Bolivar-Richburg was destined for a bounce back game. Their hope to do that began Tuesday night, when they welcomed the Belfast Lady Bulldogs into town.

Although the rain came plummeting down onto the turf shortly after first kick at center, it did not faze the Lady Wolverines one bit, as they battled tooth and nail all throughout the soggy conditions to deliver a powerful night of offense, scoring four times in the first half to ultimately set up a 6-0 victory.

“It’s hard to complain when the kids are finding the net. I felt like tonight, we executed the game plan a little bit better. We pounded the net more frequently, and as the game went on, it got a little sloppier with the rain,” Lady Wolverines coach Mark Emery said. “We didn’t allow them to get a corner, which is a statistic that is often overlooked. Overall, we got the game we really needed to bounce back from Fillmore. Belfast didn’t give up, but we had it going at a different gear. You want to rebound off a tough loss with a positive win, and that’s how it panned out.”

The Harris twins were responsible for scoring all six goals for the Lady Wolverines (5-3) in the contest, as they went back and forth all throughout the night to propel the offense. Just over two minutes into the game, Madigan Harris was the first to strike off a pass from Kelsey Pacer on the near sidelines. Harris dribbled in and let her shot go top shelf on the far post shortly after to break the ice.

Five minutes later, McKinlee Harris got her first goal of the game after Belfast (5-2) was able to clear the ball out, as she played the ball back into the offensive zone after Madigan delivered up a pass, finishing the ball to the far side to give the lead an extension.

The lead would grow to four by the time halftime approached, as each Harris added another goal with McKinlee scoring off another assist from Madigan at the 28:10 mark. That came before a three-part play inside the Lady Bulldogs box that resulted in a goal for Madigan Harris off two consecutive assists by Pacer and McKinlee Harris, with Pacer receiving primary credit after her trap went directly to Madigan’s feet for the goal.

Bolivar-Richburg would add their last two goals in the second half, with Madigan Harris finishing off her hat trick first at the midway mark off Pacer’s third assist of the night. McKinlee Harris would finish her trick four minutes later off Madigan’s third assist of the night. In all, the Lady Wolverines applied 15 shots on goal while holding Belfast to just two on defense.

Malayna Ayers recorded her first victory via shutout in goal for Bolivar-Richburg, stopping both shots. Kaitlin Sadler made eight saves on the opposite end of the field for Belfast.

Both teams are back on the field Thursday night, with Bolivar-Richburg looking to continue their momentum shift into Genesee Valley for a 5 p.m. battle with the Lady Jaguars, while the Lady Bulldogs look to rebound back home for a 7 p.m. contest under the lights against Friendship.
