Lavery, Williams help aid rapid start for C-R girls, build off of season-opening win vs. Olean with 32-14 home victory over Friendship/Scio; C-R at Portville Tourney tonight

CUBA — The Lady Rebels of Cuba-Rushford are fresh off an impeccable season debut against Olean back on Monday, and looked to carry over the momentum into a Thursday night that wreaked snowy havoc across the area. Despite that, it was a first quarter start powered up by both Brynn Lavery and Aubrey Williams that helped set the tone right away, en route towards a 32-14 win over visiting Friendship/Scio.

The first eight minutes for the Lady Rebels (2-0) were put to good use, as the duo of Lavery and Williams came together to score all 11 points on the attack, while the defense on the opposite end of the floor kept Friendship/Scio at a standstill to put the finishing touches on an 11-2 run that ultimately gave them all the room they needed to work going forward.

Lavery wound up finishing as Cuba-Rushford’s leading scorer with a game-high 12 points, including two of the team’s three-pointers from long range. Following up was Lilly Farwell, who had six points, while Lily Tompkins had five points to add in.

Friendship/Scio (0-1) was paced by a team-high 10-point performance from Emily Lamberson. Kaydence Sadler and Emma Bolzan each had two points to round off the scoring, with Sadler grabbing 10 rebounds along the way. Hunter Hint grabbed eight more rebounds along the way to continue fueling the special teams cause. The team will return to action on Monday, heading to Whitesville for a 7:30 p.m. contest against Andover/Whitesville.

As for the Lady Rebels, they will hit the road for a 6 p.m. visit to Portville tonight for a first round battle against the host Lady Panthers in their annual ACE Tournament.
