BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Cuba-Rushford 3, Arkport/Canaseraga 1
ARKPORT — The Arkport/Canaseraga Wolves gave the undefeated Cuba-Rushford Rebels a run for their money in their final regular season matchup on Thursday.
Each team went back and forth through the opening two sets, with a win being collected for each side to force at least four sets. But in those two sets, Cuba-Rushford would make sure no more extensions were added on, as they survived the Wolves and their battle of the elites with a four-set victory by a 25-22, 21-25, 25-17, 25-20 count.
“It was a great effort from both teams tonight,” Rebels coach Nick Perillo said. “I was personally on the edge of my seat the entire match. There weren’t too many aces tonight, because Arkport really did a great job of keeping the ball off the floor. Our guys stayed positive and grinded this one out. We have multiple guys playing new positions due to some injuries and quarantines, so I was very pleased with the team’s effort to get this win tonight.”
The offense for the Rebels (12-0) was led by Nate Cole, who was at the top of his game, recording a game-high 10 kills to pair with five blocks at the net. Anderson Siegel added in two aces from the line while compiling a kill and assist along the way, while the team’s setter Allen Fuller dished out 19 helpers to provide alongside six additional kills on the attack.
Cuba-Rushford will look to end their regular season perfect with one last road trip on Tuesday, visiting Scio in a 6 p.m. first serve.
