Attica 49, Wellsville 6

WELLSVILLE — The Attica Blue Devils came, saw and conquered the day on Saturday, as they opened their 2021 season off on a big note in their road trip to visit Wellsville, rolling toward a 49-6 victory over the Lions.

The Lions (0-1) found the end zone just one time during the entire 48 minutes of action on the gridiron, as Blake Beckwith converted on a touchdown from the goal-line in the fourth quarter.

Complete statistics and a box score were not made available upon publication.

Wellsville will now hit the road to open their road slate next Friday night, as they prepare to visit Marcus Whitman/Bloomfield in a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Geneseo 8, Bolivar-Richburg 0

BOLIVAR — The wait was over at Dunsmore-Latimer Field. After months of pause with the football season being moved from the Fall, to the Spring, there was no better day to kick off the season than on Saturday when the Wolverines of Bolivar-Richburg took the field to face Geneseo.

Through most of the game, it was a scoreless battle between the two clubs. But in the fourth quarter, one team was able to gain the upper-hand. That being the Blue Devils, who converted on a big 29-yard connection from Adam Wright to Caden Willis to earn the game’s lone score.

Geneseo would convert on the 2-point try to grab the lead, ultimately for good in their 8-0 season-opening win over Bolivar-Richburg.

“We had more than one chance to tie the game, but early on, we were in position to do it, but we couldn't,” Wolverines coach Steve Smith, who enters his sixth season on the sidelines, said. “The effort was outstanding, but we didn't get the outcome to go our way. It was tough. We had a few injuries that really impacted how you call the game from that point. I give the credit to the kids, the effort was there the entire game. If you didn't see the score, and the stats, we wouldn't have gotten beaten 8-0. Credit to Geneseo, they hung in there. They ran the ball effectively, and when they needed to, they got the big play and got the stops on us.”

Although the chances were garnered by the Wolverines (0-1) throughout the day, perhaps their best chance to make a run at Geneseo’s lead came on their final drive of the afternoon, when they advanced the possession all the way to the Blue Devils 6-yardline, when they converted on a 4th-and-4.

With one second left, Bolivar-Richburg handed the ball off to Hudson Evingham in hopes of pounding it into the end zone, but the Blue Devils were able to come away with the stop, sealing their victory.

Despite the loss, the Wolverines virtually dominated almost every statistical aspect on the field, taking the 250-152 advantage in total yards from scrimmage, as well as first downs (15-6), and time of possession (28:58-17:22).

Under center, Brayden Ellis finished 7-for-15 with 55 total yards. Evingham was the team’s leading rusher, tallying 15 rushes for 80 total yards. On defense, Camdyn MacDonell recorded seven tackles, while Ethan Coleman had six.

Bolivar-Richburg will look to turn the ship around Friday night in Hornell, when they meet up with their longtime rival — the Canisteo-Greenwood Redskins for a 4 p.m. battle at Maple City Park.
