Weekend Roundup: Lady Lions remain unbeaten with road win at Hammondsport; B-R hands O-A/Elba 1st loss on gridiron

HAMMONDSPORT — The Lady Lions of Wellsville successfully continued their hot start to their season on Friday, as they remained unbeaten with their sixth straight win over the road in Hammondsport, taking the four-set victory over the Lady Lakers by a 24-26, 25-7, 25-10, 25-21 count.

Marley Adams led the way on the offensive front for Wellsville (6-0), providing four kills to go with her 10 aces from the service line, while Kaylee Coleman also had four kills to dish in to go with her four aces. Pacing the service was Makenna Dunbar, who had a team-high 11 aces to go with a pair of blocks, and a pair of kills.

The Lady Lions are back on the court Monday night back home, as they aim for seven in a row with Addison in town for a 7:15 p.m. first serve.

Genesee Valley/Belfast 3, Fillmore 1

FILLMORE — The Lady Jaguars started their return from Spring Break strong, Saturday afternoon over the road, as they went past the host Lady Eagles of Fillmore with a four-set victory inside The Rock, taking the 25-19, 14-25, 25-23, 26-24 decision.

Paving the way for the Genesee Valley (2-4) offense was Kaitlin Sadler, who had a team-high eight kills to go with three digs and one block. Kayci Bigelow added in four more kills to go with three aces and a block. Setter Addy Herring dished out 11 team-high assist to go along with her five aces from the service line.

On the other side, Fillmore (4-4) was paced by Emma Cole, who came up with 11 service points, 10 kills and three aces. Jadyn Mucher chipped in with eight kills of her own, along with eight service points and three aces.

The Lady Jaguars are back on their home floor Monday night in a 6 p.m. contest against Archbishop Walsh. The Lady Eagles, on the other hand, will hit the road for Cuba-Rushford to visit the Lady Rebels in a 7:30 p.m. contest on Tuesday.

FOOTBALL

Bolivar-Richburg 14, Oakfield-Alabama/Elba 8

BOLIVAR — The search for Bolivar-Richburg’s first win of the season came to a halt Thursday night at Dunsmore-Latimer Field. With undefeated Oakfield-Alabama/Elba in town for a visit, the Wolverines made the most of the opportunity by handing the Aggies their first loss behind scores from a muffed kickoff and a Logan Bess touchdown to earn the 14-8 victory.

The Wolverines (1-2) defense provided an immaculate showing, recording nearly 50 tackles as a unit to go with two interceptions. Hudson Evingham was responsible for recording the most, garnering nine tackles while Trent Sibble followed up with 6.5. The Wolverines defense also held the Aggies to just over 200 yards in total offense.

The Wolverines will now look to reach .500 on the season when Wednesday night approaches, as they head for this year’s Hyphen Bowl rivalry matchup at Cuba-Rushford. Kickoff is slated for a 6 p.m. start.

Letchworth/Warsaw 35, Wellsville 7

WELLSVILLE — Letchworth/Warsaw put on a show over the road in Wellsville, Thursday night, as they held the host Lions to just one offensive score right at the beginning of the game, as the Indians scored 35 unanswered to take the 35-7 victory.

Wellsville (0-4) will continue the search for their first win back over the road on Tuesday, when they head to Livonia to take on the Bulldogs in a 6:30 p.m. contest.

Canisteo-Greenwood 42, Cuba-Rushford 8

CUBA — The Redskins of Canisteo-Greenwood conquered their road trip to Cuba-Rushford, as they rolled their way toward a humongous 42-8 victory over the host Rebels on Thursday.
