Wednesday Roundup: Wellsville continues to roll on links, move to 3-0 ahead of big Thursday match with Hornell; B-R boys, Fillmore girls start season strong at GV

WELLSVILLE — Although Mother Nature continued to spoil the start of the Spring season with more rain, even the slightest drops of precipitation could not slow down Wellsville’s start on the links come Wednesday, as they rolled behind stellar rounds from Ethan Bailey, Aidan Hart and Lance Grantier, helping the Lions propel to a 201-244 victory over visiting Cuba-Rushford at the Wellsville Country Club.

Bailey led all golfers on the links with his medalist round, firing for a match-low 44. Hart was not far behind on the Wellsville (3-0) scorecard with a round of 45, while Grantier followed with a 47. Jack Jordan chipped in with a 65.

For the Rebels (1-1), Ethan Rix was at the top of the card with his team-leading round of 51. Sebastian Saulter provided a round of 58. Benson McCumiskey tallied a 63, while Landon Wight rounded off by carding a 72 for the Rebels, who return home to Allegheny Hills to play the role of visitors Friday afternoon, when they “visit” the Fillmore Eagles at 4 p.m.

Today, the Lions will go for four in a row with an early tough test coming to town in the form of the Hornell Red Raiders. Tee off is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Wellsville Country Club.

B-R boys, Fillmore girls victorious in season debut at GV

BELMONT — Wednesday marked the first day of track, and for the Bolivar-Richburg boys and Fillmore girls teams, it was a debut filled with success, as they swept the action during their road trip to Genesee Valley, with the Wolverines scoring wins over the Eagles (77-15) and host Jaguars (63-50), while the Lady Eagles took the narrow win over the Lady Wolverines (48-43) and triumph over the Lady Jaguars (52-21).

Rudy Polk, Hunter Stuck and Lloyd Kinnicutt were multiple-event winners for the Wolverines, with Polk leading the way on both sides of the spectrum, picking up his victory on the track in the 100 dash (11.4), and then finding the sand the furthest in the long jump (19-7). In the hurdling events, Hunter Stuck swept both races with his wins in the 110 (17.9) and 400 hurdles (1:05.0). In the field, Kinnicutt added his wins in both throwing events, posting winning distances in the shot put (38-7), and discus (105-2).

For the Fillmore girls, they grabbed five total victories, four individual wins from four different Lady Eagles to go with their solo relay victory — that coming from the team of Grace Russell, Morgan Byer, Hope Russell and Rachel Hatch, as they all ran for a winning time of 1:01.8 in the 400 relay event.

On the track, Hatch added her individual victory with a 31.1 time in the 200 dash. Byer chipped in an individual victory of her own from the field, garnering the winning height in the high jump (4-4). Ava Sylvester and Jessi Rust provided the last of the Lady Eagles individual victories on the track, with Sylvester medaling in the 400 sprint (1:16.2) and Rust triumphant in the 100 hurdles (22.9).
