Lady Rebels propel towards 1st win of season behind Radomski’s big night, Keller’s 3-run blast, squeeze past Franklinville in high-scoring affair with 11-9 road win

FRANKLINVILLE — Spring Break is now in the books, and now for the rest of Allegany County, their final quest towards Sectional glory this season will finally kick off. For the Lady Rebels of Cuba-Rushford, theirs began on Monday with a trip to Franklinville.

In their season-opening battle against the host Lady Panthers, an offensive slugfest was put on full display. Between the two squads, nearly 30 hits were collected at the plate, with the Lady Rebels garnering the bulk of them.

Fortunately enough for the visitors in blue and gray, a quick start at the plate in the first three innings would prove to provide just enough wiggle room to work with going down the home stretch, while Sydney Howard and Jordyn Radomski converged to hand out 10 total chairs to Franklinville at the plate to keep them on their feet, using the early momentum to squeeze their way towards victory by an 11-9 count.

The Lady Rebels (1-0) were able to take full advantage of the game’s first lead, scoring the first six runs to set an early tone, including three runs in the top of the third — an inning where Franklinville was able to respond by cutting their deficit straight in half with a three-run offensive spurt themselves.

Despite pressure being applied by the Lady Panthers, especially in the latter stages of the battle, Cuba-Rushford never lost their lead, as they kept it intact with an even four-run exchange with Franklinville in the sixth inning before the defense helped shut the door to complete the victory in the seventh.

In all, the Lady Rebels would account for 11 runs off 16 total hits, with four different batters recording at least a pair of hits. Among them, Jordyn and Katelyn Radomski, as they both scored three each, with Katelyn providing the biggest bat of the bunch with a pair of doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. Jordyn scored two more runs herself, while Taylor Searle recorded two hits and scored twice.

Riley Keller chipped in with a three-run bomb, her first of the season, to help further the offensive cause.

In the circle, Sydney Howard picked up the victory across her start that stretched through three innings of action, fanning five and walking one. Jordyn Radomski chipped in with five more strikeouts in relief.

The Lady Rebels will have a quick turnaround this evening in the midst of a busy Tuesday night across the area, as they hit the road for the first time for a 5 p.m. visit to Fillmore.
