Tuesday Roundup: Lady Wolverines finish off Allegany County League title, go offensive in 15-3 5-inning win over Fri/Scio; Potter fans 9 to aid Fillmore baseball in huge 10-6 home win over B-R
RICHBURG — Offense continues to serve as the name of the game for the Lady Wolverines of Bolivar-Richburg.
They used a great deal of it the previous night at Andover/Whitesville, and on Tuesday, they put together another strong display at the plate against visiting Friendship/Scio at Stan Harris Field to close out their regular season on top as Allegany County League Champions, as they rolled straight towards a 15-3 five-inning win — their eighth in a row.
After Friendship/Scio hopped aboard first in their opening at-bats, the Lady Wolverines went right to work themselves in laying the foundation down immediately, with back-to-back RBI doubles off the bats of Teegan Sibble and Kylee Whiting igniting the early fire. The hosts went on to plate four more runs off three RBI-driving sequences — two off the bat of Danika Loucks, who found the outfield herself on a double to aid in the closure of a 6-1 first inning lead.
The visitors chipped away at the deficit with another run off an infield groundout by Josilyn Kirch to start the second. But as soon as back-to-back strikeouts from Sommer Beckwith were fired right down the chute to end the frame, the Lady Wolverines kept digging away with eight more runs in the bottom half, leading the festivities off with a solo homer from Rylee Whiting.
Along with a plethora of walks, Kylee Whiting (single) and Rylee Whiting (double) tag-teamed to keep the momentum at the full maximum with back-to-back RBIs to help push out their advantage into insurmountable territory where it would remain.
To pair with their 15 runs, Bolivar-Richburg collected 10 total hits with the Whiting siblings and Sibble all garnering two hits each. On the mound, Beckwith collected the victory with seven strikeouts and five walks.
As for the visitors, they collected three runs off three hits to pace the offense. Leading the way were Alexiss Herring, Avery Lamberson and Jadyn Wonderling, each posting one.
Both teams are now on a brief recess before Sectionals officially begin in just days from now, as the Lady Wolverines close out with a record of 12-4 overall, and Friendship/Scio finishes at 4-13 overall.

Fri/Scio splits home twinbill with Hammondsport, score 1st win of season
SCIO — The regular season came to a screeching halt across the area on Tuesday, and for some, there were teams that had more than one game on the docket to finish before they could begin their journey towards the second season. Friendship/Scio was among the group, along with Andover/Whitesville just south of them, as they played host to Hammondsport for a back-to-back set in Scio.
It was a rough go of action to start the night in game one against the Lakers, but in game two, Friendship/Scio was able to navigate over the hurdle to claim their very first win to end their regular season on a high note, as they proceeded to split their home doubleheader right down the middle.
In game one, it was the Lakers that took complete and total control of the opportunity right off the bat. After holding Friendship/Scio scoreless during their first visit to the plate, the team in purple conducted a first inning fireworks display that saw them score half of their 18 total runs to set the stage for a 9-0 lead they never lost to capture an eventual 18-8 win after five innings.
Hammondsport collected just five hits at the plate, as they utilized a number of errors along with 13 walks to help reach base along the way. As for Friendship/Scio, they registered eight hits in return, with Matt Donohue and Cooper Greenman each recording two to lead the bats. On the mound, Roberto Leyva fanned three and walked seven through his four-inning start.
Although the Lakers kept them at bay for much of the contest to open the doubleheader, Friendship/Scio came right back in a massive way to close out the night, flipping an early advantage by the visitors upside down to pull ahead for good to secure their first win of the campaign by a 7-5 count.
Friendship/Scio found their groove on offense after Hammondsport initially opened the contest with a 2-0 lead, going on to register the next seven runs in unanswered fashion — five of which coming in the bottom of the third inning to break the game open. The Lakers, despite being held scoreless across the next five frames, would apply a fair amount of pressure down the stretch, netting their last three runs in the top of the seventh to close the gap to a pair.
But in the end, the hosts in gold were not going to be denied their first win, as they officially finished off their victory.
Friendship/Scio totaled seven runs off five hits, with Aiden Golden and Charlie Taylor each posted a pair, with Golden driving in two runs and scoring two of his own. On the hill, Matt Donohue took control from start to finish, going the distance with nine strikeouts and three walks.
The regular season is now over for Friendship/Scio, as they now await Sectional seeding in Class D with a record of 1-17 overall.

Fillmore 10, Bolivar-Richburg 6
FILLMORE — After enduring four tough defeats in a span of six games coming down the stretch towards the end of the regular season, the Eagles of Fillmore entered momentum-building mode on Tuesday back home to the Town Park. With the Wolverines of Bolivar-Richburg having claimed the win early on this year, the Eagles were looking to return the favor by ending the docket with one of their own.
The ball was given to Damon Potter, and with it, the Fillmore senior ran, holding Bolivar-Richburg scoreless across each of the first four innings. As he built steam for the defense on the mound, the Eagles fed off of it during their trips to the plate, as they fastened and bolstered a gigantic advantage on the Wolverines that was never looked back upon in the rearview mirror, closing up the 10-6 victory to officially split their season series.
Potter was simply remarkable during his final regular season start, keeping Bolivar-Richburg at bay with nine strikeouts and a pair of walks while surrendering just one hit. In the midst of it, the Fillmore offense went full throttle after the exchange of a scoreless first inning, doubling their advantage in the bottom of the second before dragging seven more runs across an inning later — two of those off a monster detonation by Isaac Wilcox to break the game wide open with a 9-0 lead.
The lead then sheltered in place, but not without a little more pressure from the Wolverines, who managed to crack through in the fifth and sixth innings with a pair of three-run stanzas. In the fifth, it was a special teams effort that allowed them to reach the board, scoring two of their three runs on an error.
After Fillmore cashed in one more run off of Brayden Hennard’s double to eclipse double figures, the visitors closed the gap one more time with Maddox Davison’s efforts pulling through off his blasting of a double with two runners on to bring both home, helping set up a 10-6 deficit going into the final frame. In the seventh however, the ball was handed off to Hennard to hold down the fort, as he rattled off three straight strikeouts following one last base-runner for the Wolverines to capture the regular season-ending victory.
The Eagles totaled their 10 runs off 12 hits, with the top of their order — Jared Boon, James Hillman and Damon Potter all recording two hits each. Hennard also finished with two hits.
For Bolivar-Richburg, Braden Zilker and Maddox Davison each had two hits, with Davison driving in three of the team’s six runs. He also finished with a pair of strikeouts in his two-inning start.
The regular season is now history for both teams, as the wait for Sectional seeding now begins, with Fillmore concluding at 10-7 overall, while Bolivar-Richburg finishes at 11-8 overall.

ANDOVER — At the end of battle Tuesday evening in Andover, Andover/Whitesville overcame their night-opening battle with Cuba-Rushford in the strongest way possible to split their doubleheader right in half with a five-inning win against the Jasper-Troupsburg, starting off quickly and never looking back to close out their regular season on a high note.
To start the night, both teams engaged in a clamorous final three innings of battle after crossing paths on a 1-1 tie through the first three innings of play. The Rebels of Cuba-Rushford were the first to break the deadlock, assembling the first of three straight stands of offense at the plate that saw them score at least five runs to pull out ahead of Andover/Whitesville.
Andover/Whitesville strung together their best frame of offense in the sixth to close the gap behind the Rebels to just four runs, but one final six-run frame for the Rebels in the bottom half of the frame immediately after allowed them to initialize the mercy rule, officially scoring the victory to close out their regular season on a bright note with the 18-8 six-inning win.
“Neither team was at their best tonight, but I was happy we got lots of runners on base and we were very selective at the plate,” Rebels coach Pat Wight said. “Andover/Whitesville never quit and every time we got a nice lead, they responded. We are on a nice win-streak heading into Sectionals. We will need to be much cleaner defensively and on the mound in order to advance on through. We did a good job competing tonight and credit to Andover/Whitesville, they put some real pressure on us. We were fortunate to get a big strikeout from Hayden and Eli (Sleggs) when we needed it.”
Alongside nearly 20 walks and five errors from their opposition, the Rebels added in four hits from Landen Schappacher, Adam Shaffer, Stanley Gilchrist and Carson Schunk. On the mound, the win was Hayden Schappacher’s to clinch, handing out five strikeouts and four walks during his tenure of relief.
For Andover/Whitesville, they also posted four hits — two each from Carter Grice and Gavin Frungillo. On the hill, Frungillo fanned one and walked three over the course of his start on the mound through three innings.
To close out the night, the rebound was on for the hosts, who used the first two innings to their utmost advantage to get the early jump on the Wildcats of Jasper-Troupsburg. Out of their 11 runs they pasted onto the scoreboard, seven of them arrived in the first two innings — five in the bottom of the second inning that granted a big 7-0 lead out of the gate.
The visitors responded with their first run of the game to eliminate Andover/Whitesville’s possibility of a shutout. But in the last two innings, the bats went back to work with the game’s final four runs, turning the tables in their favor to close out the game early with a five-inning victory by an 11-1 count.
To pair with their 11 runs, Andover/Whitesville accumulated nine hits with Vinny Joyce and Brody Vance carrying the big bats by going 3-for-3, each posting a triple and combining to drive in three runs. Joyce also scored three runs. On the mound, Frungillo picked up his second start and provided a stellar rebound, going into the fifth inning to finish up with an eight-strikeout, two-walk performance.
Both teams now await Sectional seeding, as Andover/Whitesville wraps up with a record of 8-10 overall, while Cuba-Rushford concludes at 9-7 overall.

GOLF
Sectionals: Class D Quarterfinals
No. 1 Fillmore 197, No. 8 Hammondsport 218
RUSHFORD — There will be times where the golf course will not always play to each and every one of your strengths. It won’t. To prevent it from happening, you simply just have to go out and do your absolute best while remaining under your own control.
For head coach Tom Parks and the top-seeded Eagles of Fillmore, the challenges that lay ahead on Tuesday may have been difficult, but they fought through the adversity in their Sectional debut against No. 8 Hammondsport at Allegany Hills in Rushford, as they used Aiden Freeman’s stellar co-medalist round to set up shop for a balanced scorecard in the team’s 197-218 victory over the visiting Lakers in the Class D Quarterfinal round.
“The course played a little difficult today as our scores were a little above normal. But the guys did a great job of trying not to do too much,” said Eagles coach Tom Parks. “They stayed within their abilities and managed to still take winnable scores. The team is getting much better at controlling things they can control like course management, shot selection and next-shot mentality. When the ball isn’t going where you want it to, those things help keep your score from getting out of hand.”
Freeman, alongside Hammondsport’s Terrill Mack, shot the medalist round at the top of the combined leaderboard between both teams, as he provided a match-low round of 45 to pace the field for Fillmore, winners of 10 straight matches (10-1). Right behind him was Anderson Wiltsey, who fired a round of 46. Maddex Palma had a 52 to chip in, while Sam Cool rounded off with his score of 54.
The Eagles will now go toe-to-toe with No. 4 seed Notre Dame-Batavia in the Class D Semifinal round, with a time and date for the scheduled match yet to be determined.
No. 4 Notre Dame-Batavia 188, No. 5 Genesee Valley/Belfast 203
BATAVIA — A terrific regular season on the links for the Genesee Valley/Belfast golfers ultimately reached its conclusion at the Terry Hills Golf Course in Batavia on Tuesday. Despite another magnificent match-leading round shot by Sectional champion Grant Preston for the No. 5 seeds, it was not enough to get over the Class D Quarterfinal hump, as No. 4 Notre Dame-Batavia navigated towards the Semifinal round with 188-203 victory.
Although Genesee Valley/Belfast came up short of a potential all-Allegany County Semifinal match in the Class D bracket, they did see a perfect season for Preston pan out towards completion, as the sophomore finished an immaculate 13-for-13 in medalist rounds with his very last one of the Spring coming in the shape of a match-low score of 41.
Finishing behind Preston was Jackson Barney, who recorded a round of 53. Jackson Powers turned in a round of 54, while Will Guilford closed up shop with his round of 55.
Genesee Valley/Belfast puts a wrap on their 2025 campaign outdoors, as they officially close with a record of 7-6 overall.
BOYS TENNIS
Sectionals: Class B1 First Round
No. 8 Wellsville 3, No. 9 LeRoy 2
HORNELL — With two matches going in both directions, the spotlight to open the first round of Class B1 Playoff action was now completely surrounding the second singles battle between LeRoy’s Andrew Coniglio and Wellsville’s Michael Bidzerkowny.
The two competitors were still very much in the dead heat of battle when the surrounding matches around them reached their ultimate conclusion. With many sets being exchanged through a back-and-forth pace, it all came down to a third and final set that saw both of their seasons hang in the balance of it all.
When all the rallies and the serves concluded, it was Bidzerkowny that prevailed at the end of the night, garnering his two points needed to lock up the victory in the final set of the match, as he outlasted Coniglio in a 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 victory to help the No. 8 Lions advance into the Class B1 Quarterfinal round with a 3-2 match win over the No. 9 Oatkan Knights.
To pair alongside Bidzerkowny’s phenomenal victory, Wellsville (7-7) also garnered two more tough victories in each field of competition, with Jeremiah Pensyl scoring the team’s second singles win in a fierce back-and-forth battle with LeRoy’s Ian Ludwig, as he held on to score the 6-3, 6-4 victory. Down in doubles competition, the second doubles team of Caydon Grimes and Benjamin Germain-Tardieu collected their victory in similar fashion, outlasting Cora Weaver and Domanic Dieter in a 6-4, 6-2 decision.
With the victory, the Lions have earned the right to advance into this evening’s Class B1 Quarterfinal match, where they will now travel up north to the Mendon Racquet Club to take on top-seeded Wayland-Cohocton. Both teams are slated to go head-to-head in a 4 p.m. first serve.

Sectionals: Class B3 Quarterfinals
No. 3 Fillmore 4, No. 6 Wheatland-Chili 1
HOUGHTON — It most certainly was not easy by any means at Houghton University on Tuesday.
At this stage of the game, the opponents that lie ahead are not supposed to be. For the undefeated Eagles of Fillmore, who are seeded third in the Class B3 Tournament, they received one of the toughest battles out of the gate to start their trek back to where it ended last year — the Finals.
That team, the No. 6 Wheatland-Chili Wildcats gave everything the Eagles could handle in their Semifinal match last season that allowed the undefeateds to navigate their way into the Class B4 Finals. It was no different this time around in the Quarterfinal round, with four different tiebreaks stemming across three different matches — two of them at first singles alone for Isaiah Sisson against Kasey Tabor.
Each competitor took one to force a decisive third and final set of action during their bout that lasted longer than any other match on the court. But Sisson worked his way out of the squeeze, as he ramped up the intensity in the final set of play to finish off a clutch win — one of four that the Eagles registered against the visiting Wildcats to move on and claim the 4-1 match win to advance into the Class B3 Semifinal round the next day.
“Zay had to really battle at first singles,” said Eagles coach Randy Crouch. “It was great to see him get aggressive and play to win in that third set. That was huge. Ezra (Schilke) was really dominant at second singles, and I’m really proud of both doubles teams, as they each won easy first sets, but trailed by a break in their seconds. Both teams regained their composure and came back to win. It could have been very different if either one of those had gotten a third set.”
The match win for Fillmore (13-0) was locked up by the aid of Ezra Schilke and his dominant performance against Wheatland-Chili’s Sienna Mekker, rolling towards a 6-1, 6-1 win. The doubles matches both featured some adversity to overcome to close out their respective battles, each seeing tiebreak action, with Carson Sanasith and Levi Russell came away winners of a 6-0, 7-6 decision, including a 7-5 tiebreak victory at first doubles.
At second doubles, Kallan Sanasith and Brayden Walton followed up with a near-equal performance, fighting back to provide a 6-2, 7-5 win to finish off the win.
If the weather permits today, the Eagles will soar into Class B3 Semifinal action over the road, as they prepare to take on two-time champion No. 2 Naples for a shot at a return trip to the Finals. First serve is set for a 4 p.m. start.
Singles
1. Isaiah Sisson (FIL) def. Kasey Tabor (W-C), 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3.

GV/Belfast sweeps final regular season meet vs. Fillmore, Fri/Scio
BELMONT — To ensure their regular season ended on the most high notes, both the boys and girls teams for Genesee Valley/Belfast took care of business on Tuesday in the Jungle, with three different performers all posting at least a pair of wins to aid in their sweep of both visiting Fillmore and Friendship/Scio.
For the boys within their 81-31 win over Fillmore and 77-23 win over Friendship/Scio, it was Brayden Cooper that was at his very best coming off a strong Spring Day performance this past weekend, as he returned to the grindstone to deliver three individual victories to lead the field, scoring them in the 100 and 200 Dash, and in the Shot Put. Callahan Tallman chipped in with two wins of his own, recording them in the High Jump and the Triple Jump.
Bryce Davis (Discus) and Wyatt Weaver (Pole Vault) each rounded off the individual wins with one each, pairing them alongside their two relay wins in both the 400 and 1600 Relays to put a wrap on what was a nine-win performance.
As for the ladies, they followed up seven first place finishes of their own — two from Addison Bradt, who swept both throwing events from the field in the Shot Put and Discus to help set up their 81-49 win over the Lady Eagles and 94-27 win over Friendship/Scio to complete the team’s sweep. Genesee Valley/Belfast garnered a first place finish from three more individuals to pair with a 400 and 1600 Relay win along the way, as Bayleigh Tallman (400 Sprint), Allyson Hazelton (400 Hurdles) and Sophie Zillgitt (High Jump) all scored a victory.
The Fillmore Eagles tallied nine total first place finishes between their two track squads, with Jonah Sardina (800 Sprint), Judah Russell (1600 Run), Eli Strickland (3200 Run) and Jayce Ashton (110 Hurdles) all scoring gold in their respective events, while Jillian Beardsley picked up three by herself, crossing the finish line first in the 800 Sprint, 1600 Run and 3200 Run. To go with a victorious 3200 Relay, Tenlee Miller rounded off the individual wins with her triumph in the Triple Jump.
The Lady Eagles also scored a very notable secondary finish from Paityn Worthington, whose distance of 15-7.5 now stands alone as Fillmore’s longest in the sand bunker ever, as Worthington broke the event’s record that had stood since 1989 by Christie Brown, who recorded a distance of 15-4.5.
Friendship/Scio was led by both Dawson Mix and Cassidy Scholla, as they combined to record five of the six first place finishes for the team — two from Mix in the 400 Sprint and Long Jump, while Scholla followed with the remaining three in the 100 and 200 Dash, along with her winning distance in the Long Jump ahead of Worthington for Fillmore. Jordyn Nickerson had the team’s final medal, racing to glory in the 100 Hurdles.
All three teams will now make their way to Wellsville to partake in the Allegany County Championship meet, beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
Boys Team Scores: Genesee Valley/Belfast 81, Fillmore 31; Genesee Valley/Belfast 77, Friendship/Scio 23.
