Wolverines bounce back from edging to Wellsville one day later, hold Friendship/Scio to one hit in 14-0 five-inning shutout at home

BOLIVAR — Bolivar-Richburg was held to just a pair of hits when they fell to the hands of defeat just 24 hours ago in Wellsville, but despite that, some momentum was built by staging a late seventh-inning comeback to put the pressure on the Lions. But it fell through.

But on Friday, they would carry that building block back home with them, and use it to their fullest advantage to bounce back in a big way, as Caden Allen held visiting Friendship/Scio to just one hit in his five-inning complete game, striking out three and walking five while providing the team’s big bat in their 14-0 shutout of the Golden Eagles in the midst of the cold rain.

“It felt good to finally get the bats going,” said Wolverines coach Dustin Allen. “We felt off the past couple of games with Fillmore and Wellsville, but it all settled down and we were able to do our thing, despite the rain. It was nice for Caden to have the game he did. He was a little nervous at first about his first start on Varsity, but he did great. I was pleased with his performance on the mound, and on offense.”

To go with his pitching contributions, Allen had the big bat for Bolivar-Richburg (2-1), going 3-for-4 with a double and three total RBI. Wayne Karnuth helped the cause with a triple, double and scored three times. Logan Bess provided a two-run single, while Camdyn MacDonell added in an RBI single of his own. Helping further the cause was Landon Danaher and Trey Buchholz, both adding a hit for the Wolverines, who began the game with a 4-0 lead after the opening frame.

Friendship/Scio (0-2) was led by Joey Bednez, who had the team’s lone hit on the mound on a single. On the mound, Cory Bolzan struck out one Bolivar-Richburg batter in his relief appearance. The Golden Eagles will return to the field Monday night on the road, visiting Andover at 6 p.m.

Also on Monday, the Wolverines will look to continue finding the win column, as they welcome in Cuba-Rushford for the first time at 5 p.m.
