Tuesday Roundup: Lady Eagles keep gas pedal down despite early deficit, bucket game’s last 7 runs to score 15-8 home win over Portville; C-R’s Radomski twirls no-no vs. And/Whi
FILLMORE — As of late, the Lady Eagles of Fillmore have started to find their stride at the most perfect of times. In the time elapsed after their loss to Genesee Valley/Belfast back on April 24, they have linked together five wins in their last six games.
One of those victories in that stretch came not too long ago against the Portville Lady Panthers over the road, as they staged a late rally down the homestretch to claim the one-run edge last week.
It was a similar predicament for the Lady Eagles again on Tuesday when the two softball giants collided in Fillmore in the midst of a light drizzle, where the Lady Panthers escorted an early three-run lead out of the gate against Fillmore and kept it glued together heading down the final stretch of battle.
The two teams reached level ground for the very first time after Portville’s top half of the fifth inning. But after a monstrous go-ahead frame in the previous stanza at the plate, the Lady Eagles kept on soaring and soaring despite the Lady Panthers and their rally back to tie the game, as they kept their foot straight down on the gas in their last two terms on the attack to dispatch seven straight runs, closing the game out on top with a 15-8 season series-sweeping victory on their home turf.
“Offensively, we had one of our better days at the plate. We were disciplined and we hit the ball hard. They were timely and it was up and down the line-up,” said Lady Eagles coach Jon Beardsley. “Our hitters six through nine combined for six hits, led by Abby (Earley) and Lily (Sisson) having big nights. Mattie (McCumiskey) is doing a great job in the three-spot and tonight, Mylee (Miller) had a great game on both ends. Portville was very good at the plate themselves. They have very few holes in their line-up, and they all know how to play the game. We responded well to their adversity, and for being a 5-7 team, Portville is a very worthy adversary.”
The Lady Eagles (11-3) were briefly stymied out of the gate by the Lady Panthers with a 3-0 deficit to make up — two of those runs courtesy of a big-time triple to right center field. Despite being held scoreless at the plate in their first at-bats, the momentum started to kick into gear after Mylee Miller issued a 1-2-3 on defense herself in the second, allowing the hosts in black and green to get on the board with Lily Sisson driving in a run on her two-out single to right field.
The defenses kept battling across nearly two scoreless innings on the field, but Fillmore started to click on all fronts when the bottom of the fourth arrived in full, with a two-run double off the bat of Mylee Miller aiding the attack in a big way to assemble a seven-run barrage to claim an 8-3 lead on Portville.
Right in the very next inning, Portville would not let the big inning go unresponded, as they fired back five more runs of their own to tie the game at eight. Of those runs, two scored on a one-out triple to right field. But that was all the scoring the Lady Panthers mustered for the remainder of battle, as Fillmore re-assumed command with the last seven runs, beginning with four go-ahead scores in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead away for good.
Miller’s stellar performance on both fronts for the Lady Eagles ended with her second two-run double of the evening, as she finished with a 4-for-5 outing that included three doubles altogether and five total RBI. In the circle, Miller handed out seven strikeouts and walked three in her complete game victory.
In addition to the bats at the plate, Mattie McCumiskey had two doubles of her own and drove in four runs. Lily Sisson had three hits with two RBI, while Abby Earley had two hits to chip in.
The Lady Eagles will look to keep all the momentum in their favor right back on their home field tonight, as they host Cuba-Rushford under the lights once again at 7 p.m.

Cuba-Rushford 21, Andover/Whitesville 2 (F-5)
CUBA — Despite the surrender of two early runs to Andover/Whitesville, Cuba-Rushford’s Jordyn Radomski provided an absolutely stunning performance in the circle for the Lady Rebels of Cuba-Rushford on Tuesday, leaving her opposition without a single hit at the plate while the offense in turn went to work across all fronts to complete a 21-2 home victory following five innings of play.
After both defenses stood tall after a quick first inning of play, Andover/Whitesville utilized their special teams around the bases to break the ice first, scoring both runs behind their base-running efforts. It would take just over a full inning of action for Cuba-Rushford (8-6) to formulate their response, as they capitalized on multiple Andover/Whitesville errors within the bottom of the third inning to string together seven unanswered runs for a 7-2 lead entering the middle frames.
With the Lady Rebels maintaining their momentum in the top of the fourth inning with a 1-2-3 against the visitors, the team returned to the plate and delivered a hard-hitting jab consisting of 14 additional runs to officially pull the game completely out of reach, scoring their seventh win in their last eight games.
Cuba-Rushford collected just eight hits at the plate, with Emma Bunk and her 2-for-4 outing leading the charge, recording an RBI and scoring three runs. Aubrey Williams had a hit, drove in two runs and scored three times, while Mireya Rutkowski had a triple.
As for her performance in the circle, Radomski fanned three and walked four to seal up the no-hit victory for the hosts.
Andover/Whitesville (4-8) gave the ball to Olivia Waters for the first three innings of action, striking out one and walking five in her start. Waters and Avery Hoffman also scored the team’s two lone runs.
Both teams are back in action tonight, with the Lady Rebels hitting the road for a 7 p.m. visit to Fillmore, while Andover/Whitesville travels off to the east to meet Class D power Avoca-Prattsburgh in a 5 p.m. contest.

Genesee Valley/Belfast 16, Hinsdale 1 (F-5)
HINSDALE — Behind a stellar outing on the mound from Kate Calanni, the Genesee Valley/Belfast bats sparked right behind it, as they turned a quick lead from host Hinsdale and turned it inside out by grabbing the lead themselves in the third inning before amassing a treasure trove of runs down the stretch to veer away from the Lady Bobcats with a 16-1 five-inning victory on Tuesday.
With a Jen Tuttle RBI jump-starting the Lady Bobcats and their day at the plate with the game’s first advantage, it was the only run they could muster against Genesee Valley/Belfast (13-3), as the visitors dispatched a quick response in return when the second inning arrived in full to take a 3-1 lead.
After another series of scoreless frames, Genesee Valley/Belfast found their rhythm and never slowed down one bit. With the action transitioning to the top of the fourth inning, the turns at the plate came one after another for the visitors from within a frame of insurmountable measure, rattling off 12 massive runs to pull away and out of reach completely to finish off their ninth win in their last 10 games.
Genesee Valley/Belfast congealed a 10-hit performance to power their sticks at the dish, with Madison (triple) and Morgan Yackeren (double) each going 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Keanna Sands also had two hits, driving in three runs and scoring twice, while Addison Bradt had a double to add into the mix.
On the mound, Calanni went all five innings, holding Hinsdale (1-14) to just three hits while fanning six and walking one in her complete game performance.
As for the Lady Bobcats, they garnered a double each from Tuttle and Kaylie Foskit. Jaylynn Wade had the team’s remaining hit. In the circle, Tuttle fanned seven and walked eight in her tossed complete game.
Both teams are right back on the field tonight, weather permitting, as Genesee Valley/Belfast heads back home to the Rich Sullivan Complex in Belfast for a 7 p.m. showdown with Bolivar-Richburg under the lights, while Hinsdale stays home to welcome in Friendship/Scio for battle at 5 p.m.

BASEBALL
Genesee Valley/Belfast 16, Hinsdale 1 (F-5)
HINSDALE — Ryan Daciw was one of three different Genesee Valley/Belfast hitters to leave the yard in Hinsdale on Tuesday, as he belted his fifth home run of the season to propel a high-octane offensive display once more over the road against the host Bobcats, rolling straight towards their 15th win of the season by a 16-1 count after five complete innings.
Five different hitters all pieced together at least two hits to set fire to the offense at the plate for Genesee Valley/Belfast (15-1), with Damon Davis and Mason Thomas, who each had a home run to blast out of the park, finished with three and two hits respectively. Ben Cater finished with a 3-for-4 outing at the plate, while Derek Calanni and Ian McKenzie had two hits to chip in each.
On the mound through a steady drizzle from the sky, Cater held Hinsdale (1-13) frozen at the plate to record a two-hit victory, fanning 10 and walking just one.
The Bobcats were led by Jackson Jones and Robert Childs at the plate, both recording two hits.
A complete box score was not made available to report upon publication.
Both teams are back on the field tonight, with Genesee Valley/Belfast heading back home to the Rich Sullivan Complex in Belfast to square off with Bolivar-Richburg in a 7 p.m. contest that will likely determine this year’s Allegany County League Champion, while Hinsdale stays home to host Friendship/Scio at 5 p.m.
GOLF
Wellsville 126, Bolivar-Richburg 174 (match shortened due to rain)
BOLIVAR — The rain put a damper on the last three holes of action at the Bolivar Golf Club on Tuesday, but it was a match that saw the Lions of Wellsville walk off the course victorious in against host Bolivar-Richburg with Noah Brogan and Rowen Ader claiming medalist honors along the way in the team’s 126-174 win.
Brogan and Ader navigated their way to the top of the scorecard when the rain ceased action, as both led all shooters on the links for the Lions (4-5) with the match’s lowest round of 28. Following behind them was Payson Root and his round of 34. Brayden Schuld closed out the scoring with a round of 36.
Bolivar-Richburg (0-7) was paced by Willow Worth, who fired a team-low round of 41. Joey Danaher had a 43 to chip in. Addison Hackett fired a 44, while Jordan Boldt recorded a 46. The Wolverines will return to the links on Thursday, traveling to Allegany Hills in Rushford for a 4 p.m. contest against Fillmore.

BOYS TENNIS
Fillmore 5, Wellsville 0
HOUGHTON — With two more matches in their wheelhouse remaining until they make the march into Sectionals, the Eagles of Fillmore continued on in full stride after taking two against Andover/Whitesville just 24 hours prior at Houghton University, as they returned to their home court and tacked on another 5-0 victory, this time over Wellsville, to remain undefeated coming down the final stretch of the regular season on Tuesday.
Isaiah Sisson was locked into a back-and-forth battle with Wellsville’s Wheeler Dahlgren at first singles to help open the competition, as the two traded back-and-forth barbs leading up to Sisson’s claim of the first set. His victory then built momentum for a strong finish to his game, warding off Dahlgren in the final set to score the 7-5, 6-2 decision.
Ezra Schilke continued his reign of supreme for the Eagles (11-0) following his performance this past weekend to make the Individual State Qualifier cut later on this month, rolling past Michael Bidzerkowny at second singles with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout. Brayden Walton rounded off the singles victories with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Caydon Grimes at third singles.
Down in doubles action, the second doubles team of Levi Russell and Kallan Sanasith had to survive a back-and-forth duel of their own — one that required a second set tiebreaker that they ultimately prevailed in, scoring the eventual 6-4, 7-6 (4) win over Brayden Ketchner and Benjamin Germain-Tardieu for the Lions (6-7).
The first doubles team of Ezra Knapp and Carson Sanasith finished off the match win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Liam Smith and Keenen O’Connor.
“Isaiah played a really disciplined match today,” said Eagles coach Randy Crouch. “He is used to overpowering opponents and playing quick points, but Wheeler also does a great job of getting everything back. Isaiah adjusted and played with more patience, and mixed up his shots. That was really the key. I am really proud of Levi and Kallan at second doubles. They battled back in the second set and won in a strong tiebreaker.”
Wellsville has officially concluded their regular season, as they now await Sectional play in Class B1.
As for Fillmore, they hop right back on their home court at the Kerr-Pegula Athletics Complex today, hosting Campbell-Savona at 5 p.m.

C-R boys, Fillmore girls come away top winners at Houghton U
HOUGHTON — With a light and consistent rainfall beginning to come down across much of the area Tuesday night, it did not stop Cuba-Rushford, Friendship/Scio and Fillmore from doing battle at Houghton University.
