Wellsville’s Kinnicutt, Whitesville’s Hamilton among local indoor track and field Section V champions in Championship meet at R.I.T.

ROCHESTER — While the basketball season awaits its official start for Sectional season, the Section V Indoor Track & Field Championships saw it reach its conclusion on Saturday on the campus of the Rochester Institute of Technology, where multiple Allegany County runners and fielders picked up a Section V championship patch at the end of the day.

Among the champions is Wellsville’s Emma Kinnicutt, who continued her championship pedigree with two more Sectional patches from the field, as she swept both throwing events with a first place distance in the shot put (36-0), and in the weight throw (45-1), the latter of the events saw Kinnicutt become a back-to-back Section V champion. She was not alone while competing on the circuit, as Sophie Majewski helped the cause with a sixth place finish in the 600 dash behind a time of 1:53.9. On the boys side, Wyatt Scott recorded a 14th place finish in the 300 dash.

Down in the Class D circuit, Bolivar-Richburg brought home the most Section V patches after the championship meet, with three of their competitors all earning one with Jarrod Polk leading the way on the boys side with a first place finish from the field in the long jump event with a winning distance of 20-9.25. Polk also added a fourth place finish on the track, in the 55 meter dash (7.12). From the field, Lloyd Kinnicutt nearly became a Section V champion himself in the weight throw, finishing in second with a distance of 39-2.5.

On the girls side for the Wolverines, Rylie Osgood was the team’s lone winner on the track, picking up her Section V patch after a long nine minute racewalk to cross the finish line first with a time of 9:07.8 in the 1500 meter racewalk. In the field, Kaylee Middaugh earned the team’s last win from the pole vault, reaching a height of 7-0 flat to win the event. Alissa Wright added an eighth and ninth place finish in both the 55 meter dash, and 55 meter hurdles event respectively. Madison Sisson placed 10th overall in the shot put to help the cause.

The Bolivar-Richburg ladies would also record a sixth place finish in the 800 meter relay event with a time of 2:10.4.

Whitesville saw two representatives make their team proud over the weekend, with one of them returning home as champion, as Aislinn Hamilton raced her way through a 600 run field after seeding sixth overall to come away victorious as the event’s champion with a time of 1:50.7. She would also add a top 10 finish in the 300 dash event, placing ninth. On the boys side, Matt Garis placed 11th overall in the 600 run event himself.

Up next for all five of the County’s champions is the State Qualifier meet, which will begin this upcoming weekend right back at the Rochester Institute of Technology, as they all compete for a chance to make their way to the Big Apple in two week’s time to partake in the New York State Meet at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, on March 7.
