Wednesday Roundup: Wolverines break ice quick, score four straight to roll past Friendship; Hinsdale triumphs, GV/Belfast falls at Keshequa
BOLIVAR — It was a start that gave the Bolivar-Richburg Wolverines a full head of steam, Wednesday night. Right in the first two minutes of play, Ryder Easton connected with the first goal.
And it developed a lead the team never looked back on, as they went on to score four straight goals to put the hammer down on visiting Friendship, rolling toward a 4-1 victory over the Golden Eagles at Dunsmore-Latimer Field.
Easton was one of four different goal scorers for the Wolverines (2-1), grabbing his goal at the 38:02 mark off a helper from Reiss Gaines. The team would go into the second half with a 2-0 lead with Evan Pinney adding in a goal of his own, putting away a goal provided by Aydin Sisson nearly 10 minutes later.
Gaines and Wyatt Karnuth would become responsible for Bolivar-Richburg’s last two goals of the evening, with Gaines getting on the board with his goal four minutes into the new session off a Karnuth helper, before scoring the final goal himself near the midway mark.
The potential shutout bid was foiled however by Friendship (0-2) with 4:05 left in the game, as Hunter Hill found the back of the net to get the visitors in white and purple on the board.
Bolivar-Richburg would go on to outshoot Friendship by a 20-5 count, with David Abdo recording the win in goal behind four saves. On the other end, Taylor Moore made 16 stops for the Golden Eagles, who head back home to host Mount Morris on Friday in a 5 p.m. first kick.
The Wolverines will now head to Scio tonight to take on Cuba-Rushford in opening round action of the Brock Young Invitational Tournament, kicking off festivities beginning in a 5 p.m. first kick. Arkport/Canaseraga and Scio will conclude the evening with the 7 p.m. nightcap later on.
Hinsdale 7, Cattaraugus-Little Valley 1
HINSDALE — Jacob Elliott highlighted an explosive second half of play for the Bobcats of Hinsdale when they returned to action Wednesday night, as they opened their home slate with the biggest of bangs behind his hat trick and assist to key the 7-1 home victory for the Bobcats over visiting Cattaraugus-Little Valley.
Kadyn Cassidy and Robert Childs both gave Hinsdale (2-1) a 2-0 lead at the first half break, with Cassidy striking first off an Isaac Howell helper, while Childs found the back of the net himself off Elliott’s lone helper. Later on, Elliott along with Tucker Schwartz and Brandon Hayman would all help take over a massive five-goal second half for the Bobcats.
Schwartz would start it all off with the first of the bunch, recording his goal provided by Damion Brown, one of two assists he would shell out in the last 40 minute session. His last came during Elliott’s hat trick barrage, with Hayman and Noah Easterly also garnering assists along the way.
In between the hat trick, Hayman would add a goal of his own with Schwartz dealing out the assist to wrap up the scoring for the hosts in blue.
Up next, the Bobcats will head off to Houghton Academy to take on the host Panthers in a 5 p.m. battle, Friday night.
Keshequa Tourney: Keshequa 8, Genesee Valley/Belfast 1
NUNDA — Avery Strobel and Reese Powers allowed reigning Class D1 champion Keshequa to get off to the start they wanted to open their home tournament at Kiwanis Park on Wednesday, as they scored back-to-back goals in the first three minutes of play, setting up shop for what ultimately became an 8-1 victory for the Indians over Genesee Valley/Belfast.
All eight goals for Keshequa were scored consecutively, five of them being scored in the first 40 minutes of play. In the first 20 minutes of the second half, the scoring was finished off with their three remaining goals.
But the potential shutout was spoiled by Genesee Valley/Belfast with under 10 minutes remaining to play, as Chris Weaver helped the team get on the board with his first goal of the season off a Jacob Buchholz helper.
Garrett Miller and Thai Norasethaporn combined to make 10 stops in goal for the visitors.
Genesee Valley/Belfast will wrap up their tenure at Kiwanis Park on Friday, when they return to partake in Consolation round action, facing East Rochester in a 4:30 p.m. battle.
