TRACK SECTIONALS: B-R men capture Class B4 Championship at Cal-Mum behind multiple Individual titles; many local finishers shine elsewhere at Hilton, South Seneca
CALEDONIA/HILTON/SOUTH SENECA — While the Sectional titles were bring grabbed on the softball field across the area this past weekend, many more Individual Championship patches were being collected at three different schools up north, as many local competitors gathered at Caledonia-Mumford, Hilton and South Seneca to determine the best of the best in Section V at the Class B2, B3 & B4, and B5 Championship meets.
Perhaps the headlining act came from Caledonia-Mumford, when a first in school history occurred.
With a grand total of 124 team points, a mere seven-points more than second place Byron-Bergen, the Bolivar-Richburg Wolverines boys squad became Section V, Class B4 Champions behind nine Individual Championship-winning performances to claim their first team title for the school, in the post Bolivar-Richburg merger era for longtime head coach Dave Kottwitz.
Among the winners in an absolutely incredible day for the Wolverines, was their leading triumphant in Rudy Polk, who became a four-time Sectional Champion in his main events on both the track and field, garnering first place finishes in the 100 dash, 200 dash, long jump and triple jump to claim his patches. Ethan Coleman and Lloyd Kinnicutt became two-time Champions themselves, with Coleman earning his patches in the 400 dash and pole vault, while Kinnicutt threw winning distances in the shot put and discus to claim his.
Coleman would also go on to add a second place finish behind Polk in the 200 dash.
Hunter Stuck added the last for the Wolverines, becoming a Champion with the winning finish in the 800 run to pair with his third and second place finishes in the 110 and 400 hurdles, respectively. Other top finishes for the Bolivar-Richburg men include a fourth place Steeplechase finish for Logan Pforter, as well as two fourth place team finishes in each the 1600 and 3200 relays.
As for the Lady Wolverines, they finished 11th overall behind 17 points, with Leila Knight’s second place shot put finish leading the way. Kori Thomas would add in a fourth place finish in the 400 hurdles, while the team as a whole collected a fourth place finish in the 1600 relay.
Joining the Wolverines on the trip to the Class B4 Championships was Cuba-Rushford, who saw a pair of Individual titles come from Noah Siegel to power up the boys and their 36-point, sixth place finish. Siegel would become a Champion by performing a sweep of both hurdling events, garnering patches in the 110 and 400 hurdles. Hunter Rix and Anderson Siegel would add in fifth place finishes in the 100, and 200 dashes each. The Rebels also added in a second place 400 relay finish along the way.
The Lady Rebels scored just four points on the day from Sofia Riquelme and her fourth place finish in the 400 dash.
Further north in Hilton, the Wellsville Lions boys and girls squad competed in the Class B2 Championship meet, with the Lady Lions leading the way behind a top 10 finish overall, placing seventh with 34.20 points and with multiple Top 5 placings. Leading the group was the throwers, as Kaylee Oswald, Alyssa Dorrough, and Stephanie Oswald all finished in the Top 5 in the discus event, with Kaylee Oswald grabbing the longest distance to place second overall. Dorrough and Stephanie Oswald followed in third, and fifth place respectively.
Dorrough would also go on to add another third place finish, in the shot put.
Adding in more finishes of their own were Brooklyn Stisser (fourth, 200 dash), Brooklyn Dahlgren (fourth, high jump) and Carina Kling (fifth, 400 hurdles). The Lady Lions would also record a fifth place 400 relay placing. As for the boys, just four Top 5 finishes in their 12th place finish overall, with JT Mariotti’s third highest height in the pole vault leading off. Eli Brophy added in a fourth place Steeplechase finish, while Grady Ball finished fifth in the discus. The Lions added in a fourth place 3200 relay finish.
In South Seneca — Fillmore, Genesee Valley/Belfast, Friendship/Scio and Houghton Academy all did battle for Sectional patches of their own at the Class B5 meet. For the Eagles, it was the ladies squad that paved the way towards success in the Top 10, finishing eighth overall with 33 total points.
They would lay claim to a Championship-winning performance from their 3200 relay squad, making it the sixth time for the program in the last eight years that they would earn the patch in that event. Fillmore would also add a second place run in the 1600 relay. Individually, Rachel Hatch placed third in the 100 hurdles, and fifth in the 200 dash, while Emma Beardsley placed fourth and fifth in both the shot put, and discus each.
For the men, Eli Strickland would add in a fourth place 3200 run, while the team itself collected a third place finish in the 3200 relay in their 11-point afternoon.
Genesee Valley/Belfast followed suit with the boys team placing inside the Top 5 overall, recording 29 total points in a fifth place finish that saw Morgan Torrey become a Sectional champion from the field, placing the winning distance in the sand bunker, in the long jump. He would also add a second place triple jump along the way, while Zach Bourne finished fourth in the 400 hurdles. The JagDogs would also record a fourth place 400 relay conclusion.
The Lady JagDogs saw Sophie Zillgitt become a Sectional champion herself, claiming the patch after a long day through Pentathlon competition, grabbing the highest score out of all eight performers. Alicia Borden went on to pitch in a second place height in the high jump along with a fifth place time in the 400 dash.
Jordan White would become Friendship/Scio’s lone Sectional Champion, as he returned home with a patch after recording the winning distance in the long jump. White would also contribute third and fourth place finishes in the 200, and 100 dashes respectively to help out a 20-point effort for the team. On the girls side, Melana Davenport scored a third place finish in the shot put.
The Houghton Academy boys rounded off the two days worth of action for all involved with two fifth place finishes from Henry Sardina in the 100 and 200 dashes.
