LIFE AT HOME

How are you adjusting to school life at home?

Hannah: “It’s been pretty weird suddenly having to stay at home, especially because of how busy I usually am during the normal school year. I usually spend more hours at the school than I do at my house, but I have been able to figure out everything technologically so I can complete my school work from home. It has definitely been disappointing missing out on some of the “milestone” moments in my life, but I just remind myself that every other single senior in the world is experiencing the same thing right now. We have a lot to be thankful for.”

What have you been doing in your spare time to keep your mind occupied?

Hannah: “Even though it’s been weird having all of this time, I have been trying to make the best of it. I do a lot of artwork in my free time, along with learning new songs on the piano or ukulele. I’ve also been doing a lot of working on my photography. I spend a lot of time outside going on walks and bike rides, and playing basketball when I can.”

LOOKING BACK AND FORWARD

What are your future plans after high school?

Hannah: “I am attending Houghton College where I plan on double majoring in Art and Education. I am also looking forward to continuing to play basketball for the Women’s basketball team, as well as singing in the choir.”

What coaches have influenced you the most throughout your high school career? Why?

Hannah: “Throughout my high school career, I have had many great coaches who have always pushed us to be the best we could be. For basketball, our coach Tom Parks. He has had such a huge impact on my life. He made my high school basketball experience fun, successful and memorable. He always kept practice entertaining and fun while making sure we were working hard at the same time. He never let us slack off, because he knew the potential that we had. He put everything into our team to push us, to be the best that we could be. I will forever be grateful for him. My soccer coach Jon Beardsley has also greatly impacted me. He also would always push us, because he knew we were capable of great things. He has always been team first, and always did what it took to get the job done. He always knew how to get us motivated, and coaching is a difficult job.”

“What made these two coaches one of the greats, is that they put relationships ahead of wins. Of course, they wanted to win. We all did, but they cared about us as people. Their dedication and commitment to our programs is what has made them so successful. I will always look up to these two coaches, and be very grateful for the life lessons they taught me.”

How much has it meant to you to represent your school’s colors in the sports arena?

Hannah: “Representing Fillmore as an athlete has been a great experience. When I was little, I remember watching the Varsity soccer and basketball teams, and being amazed at how good they seemed to me. I remember thinking I could never be that good. There was no way. But as I grew older, I began developing in the Fillmore program, and I have been able to help leave my mark on Fillmore girls basketball and soccer. It has been so much fun representing my school, and accomplishing things with my team that our community can be proud of. I hope to be a role model to future kids coming through the program just like I looked up to the girls ahead of me.”

What has been some of your favorite sports memories over the years in school?

Hannah: “Some of my favorite memories would definitely be winning Sectionals for both soccer and basketball. The basketball win came first, and it was an amazing experience. Our tam was the first to win Sectionals in our program’s history. That was a pretty amazing experience to be a part of. It seemed like every sports lover from our community came out to watch that game at Letchworth. Winning Sectionals for soccer was amazing too. We beat the team that beat us the previous year in the Finals, which made for a very satisfying win. It was an awesome accomplishment we were able to make together as a team. And of course, the bus rides home from both the Finals games. They are incredible memories I will never forget. We celebrated together, and drove through town with a parade of fans following us in their cars, screaming and cheering. I think we all started to lose our voices that night.”

What’s your farewell message to your underclassmen at your school?

Hannah: “Always work hard at everything you do, and always do your best. Enjoy every single moment you have with your team. Every laugh, and every struggle you face together. There’s nothing quite like being a part of team, so try not to take it for granted. Enjoy the time that you have together.”
