NYS Rankings: Lady Eagles move up to 6th in Class D; Fillmore, GV, Scio hoops given Class D honorable mentions on boys side

For the New York State Sportswriters Association (NYSSWA), Tuesday marked the beginning of a brand new week. With it, came a spanking new set of basketball rankings across the boys and girls basketball scene. On the list, four area basketball programs remain in the eyesight of the Empire State with the Lady Eagles of Fillmore topping the list with the highest ranking of the bunch.

In Class D, the Lady Eagles continue to roll along through nine games of their season. With their only loss coming to the hands of Andover just before the weekend saw its end, Fillmore has still compiled a record of 8-1 under longtime head coach Tom Parks, coming up with their biggest win of the season over Wellsville to help bolster their position in the standings to sixth overall. Fillmore is back in action tonight in Hinsdale at 7:30 p.m.

On the boys side, three Class D squads were downgraded outside the top 20 in the State, but they are all still receiving attention from New York State. Genesee Valley is one of those teams, as they currently stand with an 8-3 record after their latest defeat to the hands of the Perry Yellowjackets this past Friday night in the Jungle.

With Campbell-Savona paying a visit to Belmont tonight at 7:30 p.m, the Jaguars will look to build some momentum leading into this weekend’s clash with the Prattsburgh Vikings at the 6th Annual Dan Barkley Showcase within the confines of the Orvis Activities Center at Alfred State.

Both the Fillmore Eagles and Scio Tigers each picked up honorable mentions alongside the Jaguars, as each program under the guidance of Randy Crouch and Dillon McFall respectively, have collected 8-1 records each. Both teams are riding high on winning streaks, with the Eagles having won six straight, and the Tigers finding the win column five straight times themselves.

Fillmore and Scio are just a game out from making their way to Alfred State to partake in the Barkley Showcase, as they both return to action Wednesday night on the road at 7:30 p.m, as the Eagles fly their way to Bolivar-Richburg, while Scio heads down the road to Belfast.

The Barkley Showcase will get underway this upcoming Friday night at Alfred State with the Sheriff’s Classic kicking the festivities off with two Wellsville-Hornell matchups dominating the evening. The girls will tip-off first at 6:15 p.m, while the boys follow with the nightcap at 8 p.m.

Brief previews from all seven games will appear on WellsvilleSports.com later this week! You can follow all the updates and content from the sixth annual event live on their official Facebook page beginning Friday night, at www.facebook.com/BarkleyShowcase.
