Monday Volleyball: Host Wolverines swept in straight sets by Ark/Can; Wellsville downs Scio in straight sets

RICHBURG — It has been nearly three weeks since Allegany County volleyball came to a screeching halt with the winter break taking effect until play resumed across the area Monday night. One of those places was in Richburg, where defending County champion Bolivar-Richburg looked to start their second half of volleyball strong.

But visiting Arkport/Canaseraga had other plans upon their arrival, as they conquered the evening with a straight-set sweep of the Wolverines by a 25-21, 25-19, 25-20 count.

The Wolverines (2-2) were led by strong offense provided by both Chase Murray and Hunter Stuck, as each provided a team-leading five kills. Murray followed with four blocks at the net to go with a pair of aces from the service line. Stuck added one more ace himself, while Hunter Murray chipped in with four kills of his own, and a pair of blocks to help the cause.

Bolivar-Richburg is back on the floor Wednesday night, as they hop on the bus to visit the Genesee Valley Jaguars for a 6 p.m. first serve.

Wellsville 3, Scio 0

SCIO — After holding onto the top spot in the Allegany County standings entering the winter break, the Wellsville Lions made sure they remained there upon their return to action, as they moved to 3-1 on the season with their latest victory — a straight-set triumph over the road in Scio by a 25-16, 25-16, 25-23 count on Monday.

Walker Waldon led an electric Lions (3-1) offense with 11 game-high kills to pair with his two digs on defense, one block and one assist. Isaiah Scott dialed up six more kills of offense to go with his three digs, two aces and one assist. Matthew Bittel was busy up front, handing out 13 assists to pair with his three assists.

Scio (2-2) was led by Patryk Pietruszka, who collected a team-leading eight kills and four blocks at the net.

Both teams are back at it Wednesday night, as Wellsville returns home to take on Arkport/Canaseraga, and Scio hits the road to visit Cuba-Rushford. Each match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. first serve.
