LEADING THE PACK: A final regular season look at the County’s leading scorers heading into Sectionals
The regular season for all in-county basketball teams has officially wrapped up on this Wednesday night. The hunt for a Sectional title for their respective schools now begins, as all teams will begin gearing up for the rest of the mid-winter break before action resumes with the opening round of the second season beginning next week.
But first, some recognition for our Allegany County League champions, as the Genesee Valley boys and Fillmore girls hoops squads took home the top honors in Division I. On the other side, the Houghton Academy boys and Whitesville girls basketball teams finished at the top of the Division II mountain as champions.
There was a mathematical error regarding our leading scorer in the boys basketball division in the last set of published scoring rankings last week. It was Wellsville senior Max Jusianiec that was at the top over Scio’s Cam Loucks by nearly a point more per game. Now after Loucks’ season-high 36 points against Arkport/Canaseraga, he has now flip-flopped his way back on top of the standings entering the Sectional tournament after the mid-winter break, staying alongside Whitesville freshman Vanessa Hall as the leaders of the pack on the floor.
