Thursday Volleyball: Houghton Academy ends regular season strong with straight-set sweep of GV/Belfast, Hinsdale gets by Walsh with four-set triumph

BELMONT — Houghton Academy was the first team to conclude their regular season, as they wrapped up with one last road trip that wound up providing a successful finish in the shape of a straight-set victory over host Genesee Valley/Belfast on Thursday, taking the 25-16, 25-14, 25-12 win.

The Lady Panthers (9-7) were led by Jessica Adenuga on the offensive front, who scored a game-high 15 kills to pair with 10 digs, five aces and a block. Jess Prentice helped the cause along with a defense-leading 17 digs, coupling them with 11 kills, eight aces and two digs. The team’s setter in Abby Reitnour (two digs, two aces) handed out 23 assists.

Stats for Genesee Valley/Belfast (2-16) were not made available to report upon publication. They will return to action for their final game of the regular season tonight on their home floor one last time, hosting Cuba-Rushford at 7:30 p.m.

As for Houghton Academy, they now await Sectional seeding over the weekend, as they finish with a record of 9-7 overall.

Hinsdale 3, Archbishop Walsh 1

HINSDALE — The Lady Bobcats started strong and then battled their way back after Archbishop Walsh tied the match after the first two sets, ending the night on a high note with the last two victories to complete a four-set triumph on their home floor, Thursday evening.

Set scores and complete statistics for the Lady Bobcats (3-12) were not made available to report.

Hinsdale will conclude their season on the road tonight in a 7:30 p.m. first serve in Wellsville.
