Saturday Roundup: And/Whi boys stay close with C-G, but Redskins pull away in 2nd half with big 57-35 road win; GV/Belfast girls win, Hinsdale boys fall in Franklinville Consolations

WHITESVILLE — It was a tale of two halves that unfolded, Saturday afternoon. To close out the weekend, a close engagement between Canisteo-Greenwood and host Andover/Whitesville ensued throughout the opening sequences.

But then, a complete flip of the script came after a narrow halftime lead was established by the Redskins. They would keep building onto their foundation.

Up by four, Canisteo-Greenwood dug in and delivered a big third quarter punch, as six different Redskins all scored at least a basket to help front the all-balanced attack that set the pace for the second half going forward in what was a 57-35 win.

Both teams went back and forth on the attack throughout the first half of play, with Canisteo-Greenwood coming away with the lead each time. Andover/Whitesville (3-5) despite it, applied all the pressure they could, especially in the opening quarter when CJ Estep and Colton Calladine came together to record all 10 of the team’s points to keep pace with the Redskins.

The visitors in red and black would branch their lead out narrowly with another strong performance in the second quarter before the balance took effect to start the second half, as the Redskins outscored Andover/Whitesville by a 16-7 count to essentially pull away and out of reach towards victory.

Estep and Calladine would lead Andover/Whitesville’s offense with a combined 22 points out of the team’s 35 in all, with Estep leading all scorers with 12, while Calladine followed with 10. Jack Belmont added in five points of his own.

Andover/Whitesville will look to bounce back before the holiday freeze comes into play next week, as they host Jasper-Troupsburg on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. contest in Andover.
