Friday Roundup: Guilford, Harriger assist Belfast in snapping four-game slide with 56-42 home victory over Andover

BELFAST — The Bulldogs saw Carter Guilford dominate the inside game, while Devin Harriger found the netting from just inside the arc through most of the night, as Belfast put together a strong first half run before putting the game on ice in the third quarter to bounce back and find the win column, snapping a four-game slide with a 56-42 win over visiting Andover on Friday.

With a 16-9 lead already in their possession through the opening quarter, the Bulldogs (3-9) saw an extension of their lead to double digits at the break, as Harriger took over the frame with 12 of the team’s 17 points from the inner perimeter to garner a 33-19 lead at the break. When the game transitioned to the third quarter, it was Guilford’s turn, as he controlled play underneath the basket, as well as at the charity stripe with 12 more of the team’s 17 points in the frame to put a lock on the win permanently.

Guilford led all Belfast scorers on the floor with a team-high 20 points, while Harriger followed closely behind with 17 points. Helping the cause for the hosts were both Nick Ellison and Stephen Struckmann, each providing six more points.

On the other side, the Panthers (3-8) were paced by a game-high performance from their senior leader, Spencer Cook, who tallied 21 points. Preston Ordway followed suit with 10 points of his own, while Grady Terhune netted seven.

On Monday, both teams will return to their home floors for action, as Belfast prepares for a home meeting with the Blue Jays of Whitesville, while Andover returns home to welcome in Friendship. Each contest will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m.
