Monday Roundup: Hall’s game-high 38 points powers And/Whi to 5th straight win in 71-19 home victory; Fillmore, GV/Belfast girls also collect victories

ANDOVER — Through seven games of the season, the Andover/Whitesville offense has been lights out. Led by the explosive Vanessa Hall, the combined unit has strung together six wins in their first seven games, aiming to dock another triumphant decision in the win column on Monday back home in Andover.

All they needed was a quick start in the opening eight minute period to allow them to set a bar high enough to record their fifth straight victory, as they welcomed in Campbell-Savona for a visit and escorted them back home with a 71-19 home win led by another massive performance from their jubilant junior.

Hall caught fire scoring nearly half of the team’s 15 points in their 15-6 first quarter run, a jaunt that saw them score 12 straight points after the opening tip to grab the lead they wanted. She would then add more damage with the majority of the team’s buckets in their next big run of the Lady Panthers, an 18-7 spurt to end the half with 18 of her game-high 38 points all in the first 16 minutes.

The rest of the way was history for Andover/Whitesville (7-1), as they continued to keep Campbell-Savona held down, allowing just six more points in the last 16 minutes of gameplay to pull away even further.

Helping the cause behind Hall was Maria Riloba, who chipped in with 10 points of her own. Gabbi Hall recorded eight points, while Addison Morgan had six.

Andover/Whitesville will take aim at potentially their sixth straight win over the road on Wednesday, as they prepare to take on the Genesee Valley/Belfast Lady JagDogs for a 7:30 p.m. battle in Belfast.

Fillmore 63, Cuba-Rushford 40

FILLMORE — Emma Cole, Hope Russell and Jadyn Mucher ignited a fire that visiting Cuba-Rushford could not put out on Monday, as the three Lady Eagles combined for the majority of the team’s points, helping fuel a big first quarter run that allowed them to put the hammer down ultimately for good, as they rolled to a 63-40 home win over the Lady Rebels.

“I thought the girls played really well tonight,” said Lady Eagles coach Tom Parks. “Offensively, we had three girls score at least 10 points, and for the most part, we played solid defense behind that. Although you’re playing against a girl like Taylor Searle, she finds a way to get the points she’s due for. All in all, I was pleased with the win.”

The Lady Eagles (9-0) scored their ninth straight victory in style with a big first half run that kept them in the driver’s seat for good, buckling down with performances from Cole, Russell and Mucher, who combined for 56 of the team’s 63 total points on the attack.

Cole led the way for Fillmore with a dominant performance down low, recording a game-high 26 points to pair with 12 rebounds to complete her double-double, along with eight blocks off the glass. Russell finished with 16 points of her own to go with four steals and four assists, while Mucher chipped in with 14 points along with four assists for the Lady Eagles, who began the night with a 20-7 lead after the first eight minutes.

The Lady Rebels (4-6) were led by Taylor Searle, who tallied a team-high 18 points. Gabby Kranock and Aleah Demick added in six points each to help further the cause.

Fillmore will look to become the County’s first team to eclipse 10 wins on the season when they return to action Wednesday night in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off against Bolivar-Richburg on the road, while Cuba-Rushford is off until next Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. road contest of their own in Wellsville.
