B-R’s Sibble to chart historic course to Syracuse, will participate in this weekend’s 1st Annual Girls Wrestling State Invite at 114 pounds as No. 2 seed

BOLIVAR — A monumental first in the wrestling arena is about to path its way into the history books, beginning this weekend. And for one local grappler, she will be joining as an elite amongst the elites.

After officially approving Girls Wrestling as an “emerging sport” this past August, the New York State Public High School Association (NYSPHSAA) will kick off their first ever State Individual Wrestling Tournament at SRC Arena on the grounds of Onondaga Community College, where Bolivar-Richburg’s Teegan Sibble will be one of 208 total wrestlers making their way to compete at the highest level beginning on Friday.

An opportunity for Bolivar-Richburg to have a first-time State Champion in their midst. Head coach Andrew Taylor says he’s excited for Teegan to get one of the biggest opportunities of her career.

“It’s big for the sport, and it’s really big for Bolivar-Richburg,” he said. “It’s a great honor for her to be able to put herself in the situation of competing at the highest level. She could very well be the first New York State Champion that this school has, even before her older brother (Trent) gets his chance. We’re hoping for a great outcome, and hopefully we can keep working to accomplish those big things.”

Sibble will compete from within the 114 pound championship bracket, where she will battle with 15 other wrestlers to earn the right to become the best of the very best.

The action begins promptly today at 12 p.m. with Opening Ceremonies, followed by an ensemble of matches leading up to the grand finals at the very end of the night, at 6 p.m.

As for Sibble herself, she hopes to reach the big goal of competing for a State title.

“It feels great. I hope I can beat my brother. I’m planning on competing for a State title. It’s going to be a hard challenge, but I think I can make a great effort to get there.” she said.

For those that will not attend the State Tournament, all matches will be broadcast exclusively on the NFHS Network. You can follow the link for the website, here.
