Andover/Whitesville 3, Hammondsport 1
HAMMONDSPORT — Graci Lewis-Ellison helped set the table for Andover/Whitesville in the first 40 minutes of play, giving them a 2-0 lead to control their own destiny against the host Lady Lakers of Hammondsport on Tuesday. Although their advantage was threatened going into the break, it was never lost, as they remained out on top with one final goal in the late stages to cement what was a 3-1 win.
After a midfield battle occupied the first 20 minutes of the half, Lewis-Ellison would assist in breaking open the game for Andover/Whitesville (2-8) with the first of two goals, connecting with Ava Grice and her pass to take the game’s first lead at the 17:54 mark. Just over seven minutes later, the junior would post her second of the game all by herself to push the team’s lead out to a pair.
But it would not remain intact when the first half reached its conclusion, as Hammondsport cut the lead in half with Danica Dresser’s tally.
Andover/Whitesville would continue to cling to their one-goal lead for the majority of the second half. But when time kept winding down, there was no better opportunity to strike than with nearly 10 minutes left to play, as Makaila Brewster essentially put the game on ice with 13:12 remaining to record the victory at the end of the night.
The three goals for the visitors in white came on nine total shots applied against Hammondsport, narrowly outshooting the Lady Lakers by a 9-8 count. In goal, Olivia Waters made seven saves to pick up the win.
Andover/Whitesville is back on the field with another road trip in store for Thursday in a 7 p.m. first kick, as they visit Judy Bliven Field in Belmont to take on host Genesee Valley/Belfast.
