Lady JagDogs fall after Pinckney’s 3-point game, 2nd quarter run fuels Avoca/Prattsburgh’s opening round win at home Christmas Tourney

PRATTSBURGH — The Lady JagDogs of Genesee Valley/Belfast were the first team to return to action right after the holiday, Monday evening. On tap was a trip to an annual Christmas Tournament hosted by Avoca/Prattsburgh, where they partook in opening round action against the hosts.

For much of the game, both teams did battle all throughout, delivering fair exchanges across the second half to keep pace with one another. But it would come down to the end of the first half, as Avoca/Prattsburgh used a combination of their inside game and the three-point game of Kendra Pinckney to make sure a spot in Tuesday’s title game was saved for them, as they edged out Genesee Valley/Belfast with a 33-23 victory.

The Lady JagDogs (3-3) were outscored in the first three quarters by host Avoca/Prattsburgh, as they trailed early after the first eight minutes. Avoca/Prattsburgh then began to find their groove to end the opening half, using the inside game led by Emma Carlton and Kamryn Edwards to deliver the goods in what was a 15-7 run of Genesee Valley/Belfast that ultimately proved to be the difference maker in the end.

In the second half, both teams would trade a pair of 7-2 runs with one another, with the Lady JagDogs outscoring the hosts in the last eight minutes.

Leading the offense was Adison Grusendorf, who tallied a team-high eight points. Alicia Borden provided seven points of her own, while Anna Drozdowski and Mary Hamer each tallied four points to round off.

Genesee Valley/Belfast will wrap up their tenure in the Christmas Tournament with a Consolation round meeting against Wayland-Cohocton, beginning tonight at 5 p.m.
