FRIENDSHIP — Old Man Winter was absolutely brutal across Allegany County on Wednesday, with the Northeastern snow squall zeroing in to force cancellations all across the area.

There were just two contests on the slate entering the night — a big County clash between Andover and Fillmore, which was ultimately postponed for another day. The other being Whitesville at Friendship, as the Lady Jays made the trek despite the messy conditions causing a bit of difficulty on their way over.

Even though they were a tad late on arrival, they made sure that their time there was well spent on the hardwood, as they got off to an explosive start in the first half, and never looked back from it to roll toward a 64-24 road win over the Lady Golden Eagles.

“I was happy with how the girls played tonight,” said Lady Jays coach Aaron Rawady. “We shared the ball really well, and we did a decent job in transition. We were able to limit our turnovers, but we still need to improve on our rebounding. Overall, this was a nice win for us.”

Vanessa Hall had the biggest evening of her young basketball career thus far for Whitesville (3-2), sinking 13 total field goals including a trio of threes, on her way to a game-high 32 points. Serina Button pitched in with 10 points of her own, while Kate Pensyl garnered eight points.

The Lady Golden Eagles (1-5) were led by a 10-point effort from Kadence Donohue. Navaeh Ross tallied five points to help the cause.

Whitesville has a quick turnaround Thursday, as they hit the road for Genesee Valley to close out the decade. As for Friendship, they will wait until after the Christmas break to return to action, heading to Hinsdale on January 7. Both games will tip-off at 6 p.m.
