Danaher blasts 2-run homer to help Wolverines act quickly, record 7-run 2nd inning to fuel first-round victory over Oswayo Valley in home tournament
BOLIVAR — With some all-day rain putting a damper on the majority of the action on Friday, including the partial start to Bolivar-Richburg’s home tournament, the Wolverines themselves would not let it rain on their parade, as they acted quickly on offense and blew the doors open with a massive early stand that set the tone right away in what was a 12-2 win in five innings over Oswayo Valley to move onto the title game.
The Wolverines (11-1) scored 12 total runs off 12 total hits at the plate, with three different batters all pacing the evening with two hits each. Among them, was Trey Buchholz, who went 2-for-4 with a triple. Wyatt Karnuth, Ethan Childs and Matt Mitchell all had two RBIs to drive in, with Karnuth and Mitchell recording a pair of hits themselves along the way.
The big bat that helped break the game open came from Landon Danaher however, as he launched a rocket into orbit and ultimately landed out of the field for a two-run blast, helping set up shop for what was an 11-2 lead after the first three innings to move onto the Championship round of the tournament, which will begin this afternoon.
In addition to his bat, Karnuth would record the win on the mound with three strikeouts, while Allen provided three more fans and one walk in his relief appearance for Bolivar-Richburg.
The tournament will see Honeoye and Cuba-Rushford take the field to battle it out in their first round matchup, which was moved to this morning in a 10 a.m. first pitch. The Consolation and Championship games will round out the day in Bolivar, with the Wolverines facing the winner between the Bulldogs and Rebels for this year’s tournament crown later in the afternoon.
