Lady Sea Lions make return to the pool from bye week solid, swim toward 72-55 home victory over Dansville

WELLSVILLE — With a week removed off after a bye week from action, the Lady Sea Lions of Wellsville wasted no time jumping back into the pool, and making a splash. On Thursday, they managed to come out victorious with help from their young core, as they went on to take down visiting Dansville by a 72-55 count to continue a great start to their season.

“With Dansville’s pool down, they have a smaller team this year,” said Lady Sea Lions coach Steve Hand. “They gave some of the younger first and second year girls with the opportunity to go for points. That was fun for them, and it was fun for us too. Everyone did great, and we’re still getting into better swimming shape. With a shorter season, it’s been interesting to say the least. The girls are making the best out of it, and hitting some Sectional marks right out of the gate.”

The Lady Sea Lions (2-0) collected four total victories from their younger core of rising swimmers to help pick up the victory, starting the night off strong with a 200 medley relay victory from the team of Morgan Mattison, Allie Bidzerkowny, Grace Kinnicutt and Emily Budinger, as the four Wellsville swimmers came together to record a medaling 2:13.62 first place time.

Budinger would also pick up an individual victory herself, as she swam to a 30.13 victory right before the midway point of the meet, in the 50 freestyle. On the diving board, Kaylee Oswald had the highest score of the three participating divers, finishing first with a score of 157.80. In the back half of the meet, Sarah McCormick rounded off the victories with a 1:12.07 triumph in the 100 freestyle event.

Wellsville will aim for a 3-0 start to their season after the weekend, as they hit the road for the first time on Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. meeting with Hornell.
