A competitive day of golf develops in 3rd annual Girls Golf Day at Allegheny Hills, as GV/Belfast’s McNinch, Griffin, along with B-R’s Hackett, claim top overall spots in field of 8

RUSHFORD — A brilliant day for golf was in the forecast at Allegheny Hills in Rushford on Tuesday, as eight of Allegany County’s rising stars from Bolivar-Richburg, Fillmore and Genesee Valley/Belfast all stepped onto the course for one last round of golf this Spring in the third annual Allegany County Girls Golf Day.

It featured plenty of excitement through all nine holes of action, where the top four golfers were all separated by two strokes in total. The two leading golfers — Genesee Valley/Belfast’s Lena McNinch and Ada Griffin each finished with the match’s leading round at the top of the leaderboard, with McNinch claiming the top overall honor via tiebreaker to become this year’s champion.

McNinch and Griffin each led the field with a match-low round of 61, with Griffin placing second right behind her. Bolivar-Richburg’s Addison Hackett finished with a round of 62, while Fillmore’s Grace Clark finished off the card with her round of 63.

“It was a great day for golf at Allegheny Hills. This year, we had eight girls and it was the most competitive field we’ve had so far. The top four scores were separated by a pair of strokes when you factor in Grace’s fourth place score of 63. I think everyone had a great time, and we’re already looking forward to next year.” Eagles golf coach Tom Parks said.

On Thursday, Parks will lead his Eagles of Fillmore, Class D’s No. 1 seed, to Lakeside Country Club in Penn Yan to vie for the Section V Championship brick, as they prepare to face No. 2 Naples for all the marbles in a 10:40 a.m. tee time.
