Tuesday Track: Wellsville boys remain undefeated with 7-0 start, Lady Lions downed in trip to Dansville; GV/Belfast records home sweep vs. Fillmore, Fri/Scio, Houghton

DANSVILLE — Tuesday night presented one of the toughest battles the Lions of Wellsville have had this season.

In their visit to the Corral and the host Dansville Mustangs, it was an opportunity to build an amalgamation of momentum to carry back home with them in time for Thursday’s four-way meet in the Lion’s Den. As a result, Wellsville would perform a split of the action against the Mustangs, as the boys remained undefeated at 7-0 behind 11 total wins in their 87-54 win, while the Lady Lions were downed by the Lady Mustangs by a 96.5-44.5 decision.

Three different Lions all posted a pair of wins each, with Xavier Scott, Ben Jordan and JJ Howard all lighting the fire on the Corral’s center stage. Scott raced his way to the finish line first with victories in the 100 dash and the 110 hurdles. Jordan followed up with two more wins on the track, sweeping both distance events with winning times in the 1600 and 3200 runs, while Howard took to the field to deliver winning performances in the high jump and triple jump.

To go with all three of their relay victories, the Lions collected two more individual victories from Noah Joslyn and Collin Perkins, as each claimed gold in the 400 dash and 800 run, respectively.

As for the Lady Lions, they were able to claim a pair of top finishes from Kaylee Oswald, who continued her strong start in her State title defense with the top distances in the shot put and discus. Brooklyn Dahlgren and Talia O’Connor each scored wins of their own to round-off a four-win proclamation for the team, respectively medaling in the high jump and 100 hurdles.

Wellsville will now welcome in Cuba-Rushford, Genesee Valley/Belfast and Wayland-Cohocton for action at 5 p.m. on Thursday.

GV/Belfast performs clean sweep with wins over Fillmore, Fri/Scio, Houghton

BELMONT — The brooms were brought out in full force by Genesee Valley/Belfast on Tuesday, as both the boys and girls squads combined to record 17 total victories, with a trio of dynamic performances from Thayne Cobb and a sweep of all three relay events paving the way towards a 3-0 meet against visiting Fillmore, Friendship/Scio and Houghton Academy.

Cobb was at the front of the pack to lead Genesee Valley/Belfast to glory at the end of the night, as he garnered all three of his wins in the 100 and 200 dashes, and the triple jump from the sand bunker to ignite their head-to-head victories over the Eagles (80-45), Friendship/Scio (91-18) and Houghton Academy (98-1). From the field, Callahan Tallman furthered the cause with two more wins of his own, triumphing in the long jump and the high jump. In addition to a sweep of all three relays, Bryce Davis added Genesee Valley/Belfast’s final individual win from the throwing pit, garnering the winning distance in the shot put event.

Tallman claimed gold with her glorious wins in the 400 dash and the long jump, while Zillgitt placed first in the high jump and the 800 run. To pair with a winning 1600 relay event, the team saw one final individual win come to fruition courtesy of Morgan Bentley, who jumped to victory in the sand pit, in the triple jump.

Fillmore manufactured nine first place finishes between the boys and girls squads through the course of action, as the boys scored an 87-3 win and the Lady Eagles picked up an 78-11 win over the Panthers of Houghton Academy. Propelling the efforts were Jayce Ashton and Rachel Hatch for their respective teams, as both recorded a complete sweep of both hurdling events, with Ashton placing first in the 110 and 400, while Hatch won in the 100 and 400.

The Eagles boys squad scavenged four more individual wins from Eli Voss (pole vault), Henry Sardina (400 dash), Noah Strickland (800 run) and Gage Hartman (discus), while Annalisa Bialek (1500 run) rounded off the Lady Eagles with their final individual win on the track.
